Mitchell v Matthews

There is an article on BS about Mitchell wanting this fight before christmas. Good domestic fight, for the commonwealth title, with two guys that could realistically go on to bigger things.
I give Mitchell the edge, but I've done that before, to my detriment!
What say you?

Great fight one I'd get of my ar$e to see. The undercard wouldn't even matter.

Would love to see Matthews win this. He's been a great servant for British boxing.

He's the same level as Derry! Domestic. Kev gets filled in every time he steps up. Badly.

At this stage I'd bet on Derry, I think we've seen the best of Kevin who should never have left Tibbs .

When I saw the headline on Sky I thought it was funny that Mitchell is chasing Matthews. That would've been unimaginable a few years ago. Shows the recent trajectory of both fighters.

Derrys left hook hits harder than Rickys so maybe that's the shot he will work on after his last 2 fights Derry says me and my team have been working these shots they might ask Billy how to go about it on this one
But after Derry saying he should be in line to fight Ricky before Crolla I cant see BN giving them tips or sparring and if Derry did get a shot at Ricky title were would he train I cant see Alec Morrison let him use his gym

Billy will definitely say Mitchell is the second best Lightweight in Britain. It makes Ricky's win look better.

I'll probably sound like a dick, but I don't think either will go beyond Commonwealth now, tough it's a genuinely great fight at that level. Hopefully it comes off.

Mitchell for me hes still level above Mathews imo Mathews domestic at best Mitchell COULD be European level (think World has passed him by now). But that is a big 'could' it really depends which Kevin Mitchell turns up.

I think your jumping the gun a little here smashing, for a start and I'm being perfectly honest here if Derry beat Kevin and a fight were offered against Ricky, Derry would no doubt take the fight but he'd only be taking it for good money as he knows deep down he wouldn't beat Ricky.
And I personally agree with Derry how on earth can Anthony allegedly be offered a world title shot before a guy he's not beat?

Then tell me who's second to Ricky?
What is clear Ricky is way above the rest

We've heard all that depends what Kevin pish turns up, if he's not professional he don't deserve nothing end of

I agree Billy, and for the record I agree your man Ricky is levels above both IMO

I don't know Billy, but I know, on paper, Kevin is no better than any of he chasing group. I think they could all beat each other on any given night. I would put money on Rees to beat Mitchell, yet am unsure if Rees will beat Coyle! Its vey competitive.

I tend to disagree, personally I'd put Burns levels above then a gap then Mitchell and then a smaller gap then the rest ie Coyle, Rees, Gething, Crolla, Mathews.
Think Mitchell is sort of lost in a no mans land doe she aim for world level but come up short or drop down to a packed domestic level that may offer more oppurtunities.

How can he aim for world level? Burns destroyed him and, being polite, Burns has really struggled with top fifteen opposition in his last two.

Mitchell on his day could beat most of the names floating around here but as Billy said, if he isnt professional enough to 'turn up' then thats his own problem and no-one elses.
I think the performances Mitchell served up against Prescott and Murray will remain to be the highlights of his career. I wouldnt bet against him vs anyone domestically right enough because he is capable. Matthews trains his ar*e off and deserves everything he gets from the sport as he is a genuine honest pro and thats what would probably make the difference between him and a Mitchell who may or may not turn up on the night.

I agree with this as well Ricky is well ahead of the rest
BN im not jumping any gun just pointing how Derry says it should be him before A Crolla its two very easy fights for Ricky and easy £££££ for you as well and on their records Derry has ko'd more than Ricky so maybe he fancy himself to have a punchers chance now with the jaw problem Ricky has now

Your not doing your fighter any favours turning your nose up at are domestic lads. England v Scotland allway's great occasions & ricky has had a great career & looks to be clinging on to that belt in his last two fights.
What is the problem with these fights??? Does ricky earn less or somthing??

He's several levels above Derry Mathews, who doesn't deserve a world title fight, along with every other lightweight in the country. If Rees had beaten Crolla then he could make a shout for one, but Mathews is behind a number of fighters in the queue. Going back to the main topic, Mitchell takes Mathews out, Burns may have knocked him out, but I'd question whether Mathews would be able to land a shot like that. Realistically Derry is on the way out, one more defeat and that could be curtains for him, Coyle battered him for 10 rounds until he landed a great shot and took him out.

Maybe, because Billy is English and he knows Burn's is far, far better than anyone else in the UK (and World....) he is doing his countrymen a favour by not letting Ricky fight them?

Mitchell v Matthews would be a good fight but in Burns' shoes I'd be looking to fight for as much money as possible wherever that would take me. Matthews, Crolla, Rees, and anyone else in Britain at that weight will still be there if or when Burns loses his title. He could comfortably beat most of them to rebuild himself back into world title contention if or when he needs to but at the moment everyone seems to think they deserve a shot at him.
'I've won a couple of fights, I want Ricky Burns'
Ricky should buy a camper van and go round England beating all these guys to shut them up. Billy can drive with his can of tennents in the cupholder and Ricky's gum shield in his sporran.
