Today my brother Lee announced he will be retiring from boxing, Lee has finally taken the advice from specialists that have warned him for the past few years that he could seriously damage his future health if he continues to put his body through the strains of being a professional fighter.

I know Lee gets bad press because he has the biggest mouth in boxing and made outrageous statements but no worse than other fighters have done in the past, but nobody can deny what he has done for boxing in Aberdeen. Before Lee turned professional there hadn't been pro boxing here in at least 20 years. In Aberdeen he will be remembered for bringing great nights back to the city in a time when the football team was doing absolutely nothing!!

Others will only remember Lee for being stopped by John Murray and Denis Shafikov, but people don't realise the the pain that Lee went through on a daily basis to try achieve his goals in boxing. After his accident 9 years ago Lee has had to constantly train whilst managing pain by using painkillers and injections whilst having daily physio sessions with the medical team at Aberdeen football club.

Lee has achieved more than most thought by winning 2 Commonwealth belts and imo if he hadn't had the accident he could have been a serious contender at euro level but in truth his body couldn't handle all the aspects of training needed to compete at the highest level. We tried lots of different types of training to substitute what he was missing it didn't help and the injuries kept coming.

Lee like any other fighter would fight anyone anytime and I've seen him get stick for the opponents he has faced but at the end of the day lee just boxed whoever was put in front of him and left the rest to his promoters.

Boxing is thriving in Aberdeen again and i'm hoping that life after Lee will still be good with my other brother Matty and Darren Traynor ready to carry on the good work he has done and bring big fights and great nights to the boxing fans in Aberdeen.

Ive always liked and admired Lee,All the outlandish stuff he used to come out with was said tongue firmly in cheek and with no malice and he always seemed to be smiling and loved boxing

The only fighter from Scotland to hold 2 Commonwealth titles simutaniously

Very good boxer and i will always wonder how his career would took off had he stuck to the boxing against Murray and won the British

I think to achieve what Lee has done in boxing comes from some of the outrageous stuff he has said. Looking back I'm sure he will be very content with his career. A lot of people have said that he had over achieved if that's a way to go out of boxing then I'm sure he will be a happy man. I was looking forward to the match up with Limond and I'm sure he would of got his title back but it's now down to the other guys in Aberdeen that I'm sure will follow in Lee's footsteps.. Good luck to Lee in the future and I hope boxing continues to thrive up in Aberdeen.

Lee had plenty of ability: it's a shame about his injuries. Good luck to him in retirement and I hope he remains involved inthe game.

I remember his time with the Ingles and the shock when we heard about his accident abroad. Lee in my honest view would has achieved much more in boxing had it not been for the accident and that is in no way decrying what he did achieve. I never expected him to fight again after the accident. Fair play to Lee. Congratulations on the achievements.

good luck to Lee in his retirement, always wondered how far he could have gone if not plagued by injury.

Mind you to acheive what he did is far more than most of us could dream of.

Like others have mentioned, would loved to have seen him in with Limmond.
But what he achieved inside the ring, made Aberdeen very proud, always put on a show, and made a largely boxing starved city, take notice.
I`m sure that his skill and experience will help hugely with the development of Darren and Matty

Nice piece about Lee in the evening paper up here today, lovely that he's put his daughters first than god forbid picking up a serious injury in the ring.
