Not a great display against a guy out of the ring for a year. Yoandris Salinas ranked 41st in world. How was this even a world title fight??

Will it impact his standing in the British P4P top 30?
I thought he boxed well after overcoming nerves and think the Cuban guy was a bit too quick for him the first 4 rounds.

Yes he is world champion because he was given the belt before the fight and a draw means he keeps it. Doesn't deserve it.

yeah i know he's got the belt they announced that at the end he was still the world champion but in reality he hasnt won the belt, you cant consider that being a world champion he simply isnt its shit like this that makes a mockery of boxing, although in fairness i thought he won.
They give you belts for not winning fights now.

He is as much of a world champion as Alex Arthur was
so no not a legit world champion, never shared the ring with anyone close to world class. In all honestly i would say Frampton has bewten better opposition and is more would be more justified but i cant make abcase fir Quigg at all

Rigondeaux holds the exact same belt as him, farcical but not Quigg's fault.

Surly you need to win a title fight to be considered it belt or no belt

The talk before the fight was that Quigg doesn't consider himself a World Champion because he was given the belt.

I was thinking there is an argument he is a legit world title because he won the intrim title in the ring and has not been beaten since it became the full title.
But....then I noticed
http://boxrec.com/title_search.php?titl ... sion=Super Bantamweight&SUBMIT=Go
So after Quigg beat Munroe to win the interim title Cermeno wins the same interim title against somebody else then Quigg fights Salinas as a defence. Should Quigg not have been fighting Cermeno last night then to detmine who the actual WBA champion is, ignoring the 'Super' champion thing for now?

Rigo doesn't hold the same belt. Rigo is the Super champion.
Back when I was a nipper if Arsenal were top dogs they won the First Division.
Then it became the Premier League and Division Two was called Division One.
Then that became the Championship and Division Two was called Division One.
Does that mean you are the best if you now win Division One? No.
Create more names, call it a new name, create the illusion of importance - it still doesn't make you top dog.
Good luck to Quigg, Frampton, Martinez etc but you all are in a line behind a sullen little 45 year old Cuban!

What is a legit world champ in this sport? A more relevant question would be - Is Scott world class? Definitely. Should he fight Carl Frampton? For sure, asap

Its a bit like the Alex Arthur situation, Scott's a world champion. Without actually winning a world title fight, I thought that was a fair result last night but relying on coming on strong in the second half of the fight is very dodgy indeed.
Be very honest Scott was very negative in the first 5 rounds and it wasn't good on the eye, so your 5 down with 7 to box and Scott isn't a one punch KO artist

Quigg is as much of a world champ As I am. I was given the WBC Middleweight belt for beating my neighbours cat for dirtying my driveway.

I feel sorry for Quigg. He said when he was awarded the belt that he wanted to win it in the ring. I believe he did that (by 2 points, although I had two 10-10 rounds that could've gone either way so don't think it was a robbery by any stretch) and even though he goes home with the belt it still felt a bit flat after the fight. I thought it was a great performance though. He was extremely patient and then upped the pace and I felt he deserved it.
Barry Jones said on the Bunce podcast that Quigg is the regular champ and Rigondeaux is the super champ, and that if the latter vacates his other belt he automatically goes back to regular champ and Quigg loses the belt. Is that true?

How was it a great performance? He gave away too many early rounds against an inferior fighter.
He messed up, it was a poor performance.

Did you listen to the post-fight interview? The plan was to be patient for the first half of the fight and then step on the gas. He did that. He was patient, which I think is a great quality, when he could've rushed in like a bull in a china shop. Then he upped it and showed his class in the second half of the fight. Another round or two and he might've got Salinas out of there. Considering it was his first world title fight on a big big bill against a cagey opponent, I think it was fairly impressive.
We'll probably have to agree to disagree.

His team's idiotic plan almost cost him his title.

You seem to be quite animated about this. It didn't cost him his title, and with all due respect I'm sure they know a little more about it than you.
Boxing is subjective, I guess that's why we all love it. Doing your pound-for-pound list you should know that.

They got it wrong. It's pretty obvious.
It wasn't a master plan, it was a very silly plan. How is allowing the Cuban to win the early rounds without expending much energy a good idea?

They claimed he would have been picked off, but why wasn't he picked off when he came forward from round 7 onwards, because Salinas hadn't expended much energy. He could have kept the pace from the last 5 rounds up for the whole fight and Salinas wouldn't have been able to live with it.

He certainly isn't. He's not even a major alphabet titlist.
Guillermo Rigondeaux is the legitimate world champion at 122lbs (courtesy of beating Nonito Donaire). He also holds the WBA and WBO titles. For reasons beyond sanity, the WBA create secondary and tertiary level 'world' titles in weight divisions where they feel they have an elite champion. Quigg owns one of these. Good fighter, great lad, but a fraudulent belt holder.
There's 4 British fighters with major alphabet titles (Barker, Burns, Froch, McDonnell) but I wouldn't consider any of them to be true world champions. But I'm a purist.
