i've been to shows with 100 people watching and shows with 50,000 and obviously you get the bigger fight on big shows but unless you're ringside it's hard to see the action compared to say the york hall , all the great fights i've seen live have been at small halls or at the albert hall where you can still see the action and it has great accoustics .

so what do you like

Never really been to a small show, but I prefer big arena shows as the atmosphere is better and normally better fighters are on them.

Small hall for me all the time

Small hall. Watch a big show on the telly every day of the week. Last big show I bothered with was Mitchell-Katsidis at Upton Park, it was a bit silly really.

at somewhere like Brentwood you have 4 to 6 rows of ringside seating on the floor, then the unreserved is on bleachers. (I know the big shows have no unreserved but you know what I mean, the cheap seats)

at upton park you had ringside, then lots of cheaper floor seating, then the stands but only the bottom tiers, AFAIR. the ring was roughly i would guess halfway between the edge of the 18-yard and the halfway. now i know its perfectly possible to watch a football match from the top of the stand, so why didnt they have the ring by the goalmouth, the same amount of ringside, and have the whole Bobby Moore stand (South Stand) open top to bottom for the cheap seats, and the corners of the East and West stands, minimising the distance from the ring for all concerned, and meaning that 99% of the fans have an unobstructed view?

(I know why, before anyone says - money.)

agreed ...i went to the benn vs eubanks rematch at old trafford i was about 20 rows from the ring just behind ringside and i still couldn't really see the action . in small hall show you can hear the punches land and feel it more

Over the years I've been to Wembley,Albert hall,mandalay bay(mosley/winky 1)
and the O2 for Froch/Kessler 2, but York Hall everytime, the atmosphere and being close to the
ring hearing the punches land the and seeing the sweat fly....fantastic.
Been going there for over 30 years,some great fighters,great fights and great nights and memories
i'll never forget.

Big Arena events for me.
Small hall promoters do a tough job and operate on a shoe string so while i admire their job , as i a fan the shows arent good , lack of descent fights as they are usually just prospect vs journeyman in which you already know the winner before it even starts, usually no atmosphere etc etc .

In all honesty most unlicensed shows give more bang for your buck , and thats nothing to do with my own involvement , im talking purely on the basis of a fan and where i would prefer to part with my money.

I do attend the small hall shows, more of a case of without them the bigger shows wouldnt be able to happen , but more often than not all i hear is people moaning about paying £30 for 4 low level fights.

I wouldn't pay 30quid for 4 fights to be honest, but I was the Goodwin promotion @ York hall

Was at the Tom Owens/Jon Pegg show yesterday great show and a great atmosphear (anyone who thinks you get a bett atmosphear at an arena is wrong in my view with the odd exception and thats only usually for the one fight).

Personally I like to mix it up prefer small hall shows but obviously there are certain fights and fighters i wanna see that I can't at a small hall so have to got to the arena shows. But overall small hall far better value for money in my view. Tends o be poroper boxing people there too arena shows attract dicks who watch one/two fights a year.

Small hall, last time I went to an arena it was full of mongoloids singing about walking through a Hatton wonderland, what ever one of those is.

Pleased you enjoyed it mate Tom/Jon deserve supporting in their drive to continue giving excellent value for money in Birmingham

There is another great show next Sunday at the Hermitage L/C Whitwick near Coalville with lots of quality fights on promoted by Clifton Mitchell which I am sure will be packed out

Agreed, it was an absolutely brilliant show and the two main events lived up to expectations. It was also the most packed I've ever seen the Tower Ballroom and I've covered many shows down there.

I have attended large arena shows all over the world and British small hall shows have the best atmosphere in my opinion.

Well mate their is a cracker coming up 16th nov walsall town hall. British title eliminator and a british masters title fight tops the bill double trouble2. 9 fights on chris male v troy james and ste pearce v rob hunt 2 real 50-50 fights. Get yourself their

borough hall hartlepool is my favourite place to watch live shows.

Only time I've ever been to the big shows is when I've had tickets bought for me, and apart from an undercard fight involving Ross Winter and Michael Jennings I can't say I've enjoyed them at all. Too far from the action usually and surrounded by complete cretins who hardly seem to be watching.

Small hall all the way.

Im personally a fan of the smaller shows, been to big Hatton shows at the MEN, City of Manchester Stadium (as it was at the time) and also in the MGM. Also been to the majority of Burns fights through his career. The Braehead and the SECC bigger shows just dont compare to the smaller card atmospheres. Burns v Gomez in Bellahouston was superb and the Burns v Martinez in the Kelvin Hall is the best atmosphere ive ever experienced.

Just remembered there the now that i went to Calzaghe Manfredo aswell in the Millennium stadium and that was gash. Lol.

another couple of great venues are the kings hall stoke and dudley town hall both have great atmospheres

Small Hall or just a tad bigger, something like the Kings Hall in Belfast holds between 4-6000. Atmosphere in that place during a fight is electric!

I've probably only been to around half a dozen Big Eventers. You never fail to get some utter nob-heads in.
Mind you I attended a show at the Point in Dublin, Brian Peters promo, which passed off very well.

Small hall and Am, been to around 60. Definitely prefer the smaller venue. Hartlepool Borough Hall is probably the best I've been to, and I say that having attended the York Hall once - but, I would like to go there again.
