What weight division would Marciano have fought in today?

With the way guys cut today, I'm thinking super middleweight, possibly middleweight. He was 180-189, so 168lb would've been a doddle. Could he have cut to 160lb?

Probably around Darren Corbett's level. He would have made a fair WBU cruiser champ.

the rock would be a light heavy weight he fought around 185 so cutting 10 pounds for the weight in shouldn't be a big problem for him , i think super middle might be a bit to far and he might lose some strength but having said that calzaghe said he would be 200 pounds before he started training for his fights so maybe 168 isn't to far .
it's crazy to think that someone that held the heavy weight title and is a heavy weight legend would today be fighting andre ward rather than the klitschko's.

He'd be a small cruiserweight, or maybe a light heavyweight, as he used to walk around at about 210lb, so I can't see him getting down as far as 160 or 168.

News flash. He would be fighting at a lower weight. And he would have never been good enough to fight for a proper title.

i don't agree about not good enough to fight for a proper title , Hopkins vs Marciano would be a good fight with marciano winning ,

Yep, it's totally laughable his crude, open style would be successful against today's super middles.

Benn could actually box quite well. See Eubank 2.

Guys, I'm still not ruling out middleweight. Rocky was in shape at 184lb but he wasn't ripped to shreds and he hadn't cut. 24lbs isn't that much when you think what guys do these days. Marciano is sometimes listed as 5'11" but 5'9"-5'10" is more realistic I think. His stocky legs kept him in the division, his upper body was not that of a heavyweight. What he achieved is remarkable considering.

Looking at the picture, he looks more like 5' 7" or 5' 8" as Ali, who was (I think he has shrunk now) 6' 3" & he is dwarfing Marciano.

I think Ali may be on his tiptoes in that photo.

This photo doesn't really represent Marciano in fighting shape, given that it was taken 13 years after his retirement.

Obviously. It was more about perspective.

Aden, Marciano at 185 was incredibly lean . .you can't compare his same-day weigh in fight weight to what guys blow up to through drinking tons of water/carbs post weigh ins today; it's not the same. Just because JCC Jr blows up to 190 post weigh in doesn't equate to him being a cruiserweight in the 1970s . .

Heavyweights wern't gorging out on pasta prior to their weigh ins back then . . a lower weight was often a source of pride as it indicated that the contestant was in trim fighting condition. Marciano had probably one of the lowest body-fat %s of all the HW champs due to his spartan training regimen. I highly doubt he could've even gotten down to 175 without being very drained.

I agree...think he would cruiserweight and very successful. You cant beat determination and will to win.
I also agree that Polecat is an idiot.

good illustration. i have one myself: rock
fighting wlad would size wise look like haye-valuev.

but in round 3 marciano would have a broken back
from carrying wlad half round ...

As hard as Rocky trained, dont you think in his own time he would have tried to of conquered the LHW division too if he were able? The answer has to be no. There's no way he could of got any smaller than he did unless he dehydrated, and that could have potentially killed him. It is ironic, though, that for a very brief moment in history a Marciano/Robinson fight was discussed--- but Sugar Ray said the obvious "He would kill me, no way." He worked down in weight; in civilian life he walked as high as 240 pounds. One day, will have to do a weight listing of Marciano's career from the amateurs onwards.

He'd either be a Light Heavyweight or a Cruiserweight in today's era, and he'd be a handful for everybody in it to say the least. I don't see anybody in the Light Heavyweight or Cruiserweight division at the moment I'd pick over him.

but maybe in his time multiple titles meant
way less than the biggest crown in sports ...
