Just a reminder, or a heads up if you're not yet aware.
The premiere of No Mas, a documentary examining the 2 classic 1980 Leonard-Duran fights, will premiere Tuesday, Oct. 15 on ESPN's outstanding "30 For 30" series.
It will be shown at 8 p.m. EST. That's 7 p.m. Central and 5 p.m. Pacific Coast Time.
That should be 3 p.m. in Hawaii.
If you're in the UK, you'll have to figure out the time yourself.
I still haven't forgiven you for sending Stracey to Mexico and retiring Mantequilla.

Nice. HBO's legendary nights returns next week, I think, with Gatti/Ward.

I'm very excited about that, I've been wanting to see more of those ever since the first batch ended.

I can remember that fight like it was yesterday. How a great champion allowed himself to become unnerved like that in the ring is still unfathomable.

Saw a preview clip from the No Mas documentary and Leonard agreed that he was totally psyched out by Duran before the Montreal bout.
Duran, in the clip, stayed true to his no bullsh** macho persona and gave Leonard no respect, saying all he wanted to do before the first fight was knock out this "U.S. idol" and prove that he was nothing.

Great news! Will be eagerly anticipating having to listen to more lies, myths and half-truths being peddled and presented as if they were facts.

I was surprised how bothered Leonard still is over this. I get it that the quitting changed the story of his victory but he had plenty of glory after that. It almost seemed like he wishes he would have given Duran time to get in proper shape. Shockingly, there seems to be more regrets on his end. Fun reliving the times though

I can recall after the fight that Leonard contended he was thrilled with the ending of the rematch.
He claimed it was more satisfying to see Duran, the ultimate bully and macho man, quit in the middle of the fight rather then have won a routine decision over him.
Obviously at the time, Leonard wasn't admitting to his real feelings over the bout's conclusion.

It was well done until the end. I guess it's too much to expect Leonard being involved with anything without his overwhelming ego getting in the way. What a guy? He "let Duran have it". Such an asshole.

Ray would've won anyway, Duran in shape, or not.But it would've be interesting.

Of course Ray would have won. He was quicker and smarter than Duran, although his brain deserted him in Montreal.
If Leonard boxes Duran, he wins everytime.

Only because you have an irrational hatred for all things Sugar Ray Leonard.
Leonard whips Duran in every category except outslugging him.
Even you must recognize that Duran had his most problems when encountering the fleetfooted, and when Leonard used his wheels in bouts 2 and 3, Cholo was lost.

You said something funny and I laughed at it. Save your silly psychology for someone else.
Duran was better defensively than Leonard, that was the real thing that did him in during the first fight.
Leonard looked great in the second fight, the third was a joke. Only someone with an agenda would mention that. Yes, Leonard certainly wins every time at Super Middleweight.

It's hardly psychology. It's simply fact. You're hardpressed to say anything positive about an outstanding fighter. That makes it hatred, irrational or not. (But probably irrational since I'm sure you have no personal relationship with him).
I don't need to have an agenda to discuss bout #3. It was merely a continuance of fight #2 where they left off in the 8th round. Leonard outboxing Duran and the Panamanian having no answer 9 years later. A boxing Leonard clearly established that he was Duran's superior.

You're hard pressed to tell the truth. I've said many complimentary things about Leonard. He's in my all time top 15 fighters, the Hearns fight was one of the gutsiest things I've ever seen in the ring, he is an underrated puncher and I think he beat Hagler. I don't rate fighters on love or hate, I rate them on what they did.
I love Aaron Pryor and I'm the first person to laugh when someone talks nonsense about Ray ducking him. So yeah, you're talking out of your ass. I'm a 'hater' to leonard fan boys because I don't subscribe to their newsletter, I'm far from incapable of giving him credit. He's the third greatest fighter of my 35+ years watching fighting.
Pretending like he could have won in Montreal if he wanted to is definitely irrational. He fought a great fight that night and lost to the better man. Period.
As for fight III, you're grasping at straws. Leonard out-boxing Duran at 168 pounds doesn't make your point any more valid. It makes you look like a fool. I may as well say that terry Norris would always be too fast and powerful for Leonard because he pummeled him. Funny how you're pointing the finger at me and cranking out ridiculously irrational stuff like that, Senor Emotional. Don't worry, Keith will be along to back you up at some point, maybe even the Alpster. They're the presidents of Ray's fan club around here. Not quite members of mine.

I noticed that too. Maybe we are biased because we aren't the casual fan. Even with Duran, I can see where it bothers him still but at the end of the day, no one in the boxing community thinks of him as a coward.

This is a bit like the FOTC....
When both men were clearly at their best, upon their first encounter....One man beat the other.
Excuses? Yep, you can conjure a million of them....but in the end....it's history.

Well, then maybe we can also say, that at their best..... Duran beats Leonard every time....
When NOT at their best...Leonard beats Duran.

How about we say really what happened? Duran won a 15 round decision the first time. Leonard won the rematch by 8th round TKO.

Nope, you're wrong. Leonard had a virus in the week of the first fight and his weight dropped as low as 143.
Duran beat a completely drained, depleted fighter in Montreal who 'fought the wrong fight' and still barely scraped by.
Great win on paper, but doesn't tell the whole story.
