Holmes V Spinks-The Rematch -Who Really Won?

One of the most unusual 'robberies' ever. It's a fight I actually had 8-7, but there really was only one swing round imo and I gave it to Spinks. Larry won the first 8 rounds.

I had it for Holmes by several rounds. Pretty bad decision. Spinks for all of his Shilstone training for much of the bout looked like he was going to collapse from exhaustion.

And I scored the first bout for Spinks; think Larry was just sour grapes for that bout.

This was a fight I never actually scored before, and so jumped to the conclusion with many others, that Holmes had been robbed. In scoring it today I came to a much different conclusion. As for the recap. Larry Holmes doesn't start off particularly sharp and he's not that accurate with his punches, but he clearly sweeps the first 5 rds because he's throwing and Spinks isn't. Spinks begins to fight back in earnest in the 6th, and the next 2 rds are very back in forth, and so I scored them even. Spinks wins 8 thru 13, by being a bit more aggressive, though some of the rds are fairly close. Holmes briefly hurts Spinks in the 14th with the best punch of the fight, BUT I did not score this a 10-8 rd on the basis, that Larry did nothing to follow up his big advantage, and Spinks was landing before and after being hurt. With the fight even on my scorecard, Spinks pulls out the 15th and the fight by a point.

After 15 rds, it was pretty apparent that Spinks couldn't hurt Holmes, but on the other hand, while the opposite could not be said, Spinks continued throwing and landing several times after being stunned.

Spinks left the better impression in the later rounds.

I felt he won a close one.

I had Holmes winning by a point. It was certainly very close and could have gone either way. It was a very good fight.

It was only shown as highlights in the UK...sunday afetrnoon...

I remember Spinks winning the last 30 seconds of most rounds...Holmes landing but not being able to follow up quick enough.
