That's how a top amateur should be making his debut.. Against a guy ranked 95 in the World with a 25-3 record. The lad had never been stopped. How many fights to people think it will take him to be World Champion? I think he would beat everyone at feather right up to lightweight right now.

it was a good debut, i think his time in WSB has helped him no doubt .supposedly it is his next fight is with salido ...

He wasn't just a 'top amateur' though. He was the ultimate amateur and was an all time great am! Record of 396-1? Mind blowing

This shouldn't be held up as an example of how all top amateurs should look to start their careers. His WSB campaign helped too of course.

Murata had a good pro debut as well and if I'm reading it right Kosei Tanaka will also be debuting against a world ranked opponent despite not being a "top amateur"....

...I know, I know, they don't waste time in Japan (Ioka, Yaegashi, Nashiro, Inoue etc etc) but still it's funny to see a generation of young pros going straight in to good tests

No real jab, didn't look like a huge hitter in the WSB (although to be fair last night's guy hadn't been stopped before), pushed back easily...

Maybe I'm missing something. I think Rigo would beat him comfortably...

Lomachenko is fantastic and did 'lose' another decision though it was successfully appealed against; when a boxer is so high profile then things tend to go their way and we do see some strange judging in professional world title bouts televised live around the world; if judges can be so hard faced in front of millions of paying customers and nothing be done can you imagine how 'amateur' boxing is done in far flung places with no television coverage?

Lomachenko is excellent and probably a top ten boxer now but Rigo would box his ears off as would Mikey Garcia; he may win a world title in his second bout but if his team are not astute he will have lost it by his 5th.

Don Curry had a brilliant amateur record as well (404-4), the best thing is to move the man fast as he is not 21, he must have a lot of miles on the clock.

That Loma didn't score stoppages in the WSB doesn't reflect poorly on his power. They use gloves that aren't as conducive to stoppages as traditional pro gloves are and most WSB fights go the distance. Last night he had no problems hurting and halting a guy who hadn't been stopped in nearly 30 bouts.

He will win the featherweight title then move straight up I believe he won't get tested until light welter. Can't see anyone giving him much trouble at Super Feather or lightweight.. This isn't a slight at the World Champions at those weights this guy is amazing

Yes the decision got over turned, think it was to a Brazilian at the worlds.
So curry lost 4 times as many amateur fights !
Box his ears off ? He might not win but come on, ears off ?
