Too much Heavyweight love, I think Muhammad & Joe are a bit high but not ridiculously.

Johnson, Dempsey & Marciano are way too high, as are Wilde & Chavez. Ezzard Charles is way too low. Other than that it isn't bad.

Edit: Oops, just saw Tyson. That's absurd.

Double Edit: No Emile Griffith?

I think he reworked ESPN's list because he "discovered" inconsistencies.

I use the same criteria to rate boxers, basketball players, football players, and baseball players:

Peak value
Career value
How they would perform if you removed them from their era and placed them in another era
And how they would perform against one another

To be fair, it's very difficult. I did one several years ago and it would be totally different now. My #1 has changed and those guys haven't fought in my lifetime. You never stop learning. The only way imo is to have tiers. That might mean #26 is no different than #47, but #47 is clearly over #48.

There are several guys well out of their tiers.

I find that incredibly faulty. I'm wrong constantly on who I think will win current fights, using that methodology to rate different eras just doesn't work for me unless it's a case of resumes that are just too close to call. That's obviously going to hinge on personal judgment and that's what I mean by tiers.

I don't fault fighters for losses past their peak, but I won't elevate them for domination over lesser fighters because I think they could have done the same to a caliber of fighter that they didn't face. Mike is highly iffy for the top 100 based on what I look at. I think I had him 90 something last time, but I had some omissions I'll need to fix next time too.

Thats a list of a lot of great champs.
However there were some great fighters who never won a belt like oh say,...Charley Burley.
He should be on any list of greats.
