At 135. Does Floyd's more accurate punching win the day or Laguna's movement and work-rate?

I see this as a horrible style matchup for Mayweather. Laguna had an iron jaw and would not let Floyd get set. Laguna by UD.

I think at lightweight, the great Pretty Boy Floyd loses to the following fighters in my view:
Carlos Ortiz
Joe Brown
Ken Buchanan
Ismael Laguna
Roberto Duran
Ike Williams
Pernell Whitaker

For all the movement Laguna showed, he was still fairly hittable, and Mayweather is deadly accurate with his punches. Floyd also doesn't fade in the late rounds, so I don't see Laguna's high work rate being something he can't handle. Over 12 rds I'd pick Floyd by about 116-112.

As much as I do not like Mayweather's style or persona, I agree with this prediction. Again, like the Klitschko's, Mayweather is very good at what he does...even though it isn't crowd pleasing (in excitement factor) it is very effective. A few of todays fighters have learned to be very very effective at winning at all costs.

Mayweather has not fought no one that impresses me.

No-one will deny Laguna will get hit, but who will be winning rounds via volume and punches landed? Floyd has let himself get outworked and lose rounds vs far lesser fighters than Ismael (Hatton, Chavez) and unlike those fighters Laguna has the footwork and defensive skill to not receive so much of the return fire.

Laguna by 9-6, in a 15 rounder, 12 rounder, Mayweather, 6-5-1.

Ismael Laguna was a beautiful boxer. A complete fighter with tremendous speed of hands and feet. Ironically and surprisingly, Laguna, The Colon City Tiger, was never stopped or knocked out.

Can you give descriptive reasons why?

Maybe he has a reason. I can tell you why I think Hearns and Leonard would beat Floyd.

Four years later...I wonder if Elmer would shorten that list?

I still like Pernell and Duran to get the job done.

Not feelin' Buchanan would.
