Fight has been cancelled - looks like Mosley was contracted to receive his million dollar purse prior to the fight going ahead, and the promoter couldn't come up with it all yesterday. Mosley withdrew, and has flown home. Entire show cancelled. The promoter asked Aussie legend Jeff Fenech to help him out with several hundred grand last week, and it looks like Fenech might have kissed it goodbye. I read Mosley was entitled to 300k if the fight didn't go ahead, he's got that, and he's gone home.

The stadium holds 9000 and I read ticket sales were only 1500.

Saw this today. He asked for 300k upfront when contract were signed then the other 700 was to be paid before fight. Once Mosley found out he would get the rest of cash him and he 700 headed home! Haha. Easy money!! 1500 out of 9000? That's piss poor.

From the outside looking in, it seems this show was a total and utter gamble, instead of a straight forward promotion. I bet the promoter was bricking it, knowing he'd have to tell Shane that the rest of the purse couldn't be paid upfront.

That's not true. He was payed a 300k advance and he also said he wanted the other 700 payed before the fight and they get the rest of the money to him so he went back to America. Partly on Golden boys advice.

"Once Mosley found out he would get the rest of him and he 700 head home" To answer your question, no.

It's not difficult to appreciate why Mosley would be cautious. The people owing him money would be literally on the other side of the planet, and it wouldn't be straight forward to drag them into court. If a million was agreed to be paid prior to Mosley getting in the ring, then its a breach of contract to fail to transfer the money in time. No doubt the promoter had the very best of intentions when he agreed to the terms. From the reports emerging, it sounds like Jeff Fenech has taken a financial hit equal or worse to the promoter, as he's raided his personal savings to pass on a lump sump to the promoter, but it hasn't been enough. Ouch.

Lets be honest, Mosley was only ever taking that fight for the money. There's nothing else to gain out of fighting Mundine.

I bet the thought went through the promoter's head - however briefly - "how old is Fenech, and how much does he weigh these days ?"
