I haven't made a top ten pfp atg list in ages. These lists are subjective anyway.
I just wonder what his ceiling is at 36.

No. He's never faced a real test, and there's not really anybody out there good enough to help him bridge the gap. Maybe if he beat Bhop

Maybe Martinez

Pretty Boy Floyd is probably a top 25. There is nobody out there that impress me to beat him now, just like back then in the 2000s decade.
If he would have fought in another era, I do not think he would have been that successful. He is in a right time for him.

Now I know it's never going to happen but say he took Hopkins up on that offer to fight at 160 and beat him. Could that do it?

If he got wins over Sergio Martinez, Hopkins, Pacquiao and Bradley he'd definitely crack the Top 10.
Any of the 4 would give him a good boost toward it.

A fight with Pacman or BHop would be too late now. A victory over Sergio Martinez could put his standing in the top 20 or 15 range.

He's already just outside the Top 20 for me. A win over Sergio Martinez definitely would put him within the Top 20.
I agree a win over Hopkins or Pac wouldn't mean as much now as they would've before, but they wouldn't be meaningless victories.

There is no one I would definitively say could beat Mayweather, however the people with the best chance I think are Manny Pacquiao, Gennady Golovkin, and maybe Erislandy Lara.

That wasn't the question

Seems unlikely…
Take a guy who usually always ends up in the p4p top 20…sometimes top 10…
Joe Gans.
He beat fellow greats
Blackburn x2
Holly x3
Mcfadden x4
Nelson
Plus
Erne
Young Griffo
Twin Sullivan x2
Britt x2
Parker
Dobbs
Turner
And he got a draw with Joe Walcott.
To be honest I don’t know the era that well. There are likely people on here who can actually add more names of guys I’ve never heard of.
Once you get to the very top echelons of the sport the records are amazing.

I read the title incorrectly. I don`t think there are too many guys who Mayweather can beat to up his historical placement unless he challenges middleweights. It would enhance his legacy merely to win a title at 160 however.

I think it's too late for Floyd to make the top 10 - I think he's somewhere around 30-40 at the moment. Had he fought and beaten Pacquiao in 2010 I'd have him in the top 25 for sure, possibly top 20.
If Golovkin became undisputed MW champ and Mayweather beat him at 160lb (of course Floyd would never take the fight at middleweight) then he could be top 15, borderline top 10.
Fights with Hopkins at 160lb and Pacquiao now would mean little.

Haha!! You people de-appreciate the talent of your era!
Mayweather is a genius!!
People bang on about fighters they have never seen with hundreds of fights which ain't all accurate.
Knowbody has a better defense or had a better defense!! There has been better showman with better skills of evading punches but to block roll slip & make somebody pay I can't think of anyone better

Agree with green disagree with red. For the second part I would answer with a Pernell Whitaker.

Willy pep & sweet pea were showmen much more talented at evading punches with hands low. Covering up & smovering & counter attacking from defence is were mw excells &
I've never seen anybody do it better including benetez

There were a lot of them better than he in avoiding punches.

You must take into account that Martinez is on the downward spiral fast, not shot just yet but getting there.

That's defense no matter what way you cut it. It's like arguing a strong jab over a snap jab.

It's riskier & they did used to get hit you know.making people miss & pay is what it's about mayweather is more likely to block then punish you but does both.
Overall mayweather is the best defensive fighter there's ever been.mayweather ain't my favourite fighter I prefer sweet pea but cold hard facts show mayweather is exceptional.he angers fans for making it look easy.
Mayweather takes the less punishment he controls the pace & stays strong & over rides any storms & is a master at offsetting an opponents attacks with spitefull counters, the guys a genius.
People bang on about fighters from 60 years ago they have never seen only read on ! They try to come across as historian connesiur's of the sport & a few of them have posted mayweather to box a weight drained 50 year old would get him into there top 20
