I'm pretty sure I saw Ali administered smelling salts in his first fight with Henry Cooper and Joe Frazier in his third fight with Muhammad Ali.

At the present time they are illegal to use in Pro Boxing in the UK

TY, as they should be . If a fighter needs smelling salts he has likely sustained trauma to the brain.

They were legal in the 1970s every place I worked corners. I understand they are pretty much banned now.

As I said they can mask serious brain trauma.
