I think Hagler would win the first fight, but if they fought more than a few times I think they'd either even out or Robinson would pull ahead. He faced some bull like fighters like Hagler in his day, but I don't know if he quite faced anyone quite as formidable as the southpaw pressure fighter Hagler was at his best. So I think Marvin would take a Unanimous decision in their first meeting.

It's hard to imagine one of histories best WW's beating one of the best MW's.
But with Marvin it happened once.....almost twice if you add Hagler facing down one of histories best LW's to the discussion.....so yes....I'd give him good odds.
Plug in Monzon as a replacement for Hagler....and nope...aint gonna happen.
Is Hagler over rated? On this board..... I sometimes think so.

Prime SRR is a welterweight, who I think loses to Hagler at middleweight.
If we're talking SRR in his early middleweight career against Hagler, I'd take Robinson by a narrow decision. Hagler was a bit past his best against Leonard but still formidable and I think Robinson could do everything Leonard could do, only he had an even better chin and would have been more aggressive (which against Hagler could actually be a negative).

Funny as I think it is Monzon who is over rated on this board.

Hagler is one of those fighters where he's either over rated or he's under rated. Either way he never quite gets the just due he deserves--- or is analyzed correctly. At the peak of his powers, alot of people thought he was indestructible. But that isn't quite true--- (imho) when he fought Duran it should of been a draw, or a split decision win for Duran. When he fought Hearns, he showed he could be hurt. Now--- Robinson was every bit as skilled and as fast as Duran, but he could also punch like Tommy Hearns--- which is an interesting combination. Much as I like Hagler, I think he survives the fight, but gets schooled.

Fair enough.....you didn't mention who you thought would win this fight though.

Too many people think of the middleweight Robinson as the post 1955 comeback Robinson, who had the epic wars with Fullmer and Basilio. While Robinson's peak was at 147, the peak middle Robbie of 1950-52 was one of the top 5 middleweights of all time. I'd favor that Robinson over Hagler and Hopkins. The post 55' Robinson loses to both.

Hearns didn't hurt Hagler and Marvin clearly beat Duran. To top it off, neither of those fights were at Marvin's peak. You can always count on Hank for bizarre opinions.
I think Hagler beats Robinson by close decision.

Ray wouldn't get into Marvin's head, and that would be the difference.Hagler by close decision.

Fair point. I see Hagler winning via UD over 15 rounds.

This is an excellent point. The 50-52 Robinson was a much superior fighter and I think he beats Hagler by unanimous decision. Leonard got into Hagler's head with the flurrying and the pre-fight negotiations. Duran made Hagler overthink by forcing him to lead in the fight. Robinson was a ruthless fight negotiator and he was smart and skilled enough to adapt to any style in the ring. He would get in Hagler's head pre-fight and then outbox him in the ring.

I like Robinson on points. He'd get an early lead. Marvin would stalk him and start to peg it back. But when they did go to the trenches Ray had enough grit to stick it out and hold on for the decision.

Robinson by a close decision. And yes, as mentioned before 50 - 52 MW Robinson was nothing to fvck with.
Top 10 greatest MW ever. THE BEST WW ever. He was next level, and not on some "it's general rule of thumb boxing fans say SRR is the best" He really is the GOAT.
Marvin is one of the greats no doubt, but Robinson would take this.
