My original theory that it was going to be Junior Witter's name as Hattons opponent has gone up in flames as it appears the bill will be on Sky Sports 1 as opposed to Sky Box Office as I thought it would.

We all are aware that this fight is not to be shown in the US, so we can't expect to much. So why not make the Manchester fans happy by having an easy Hatton fight against another Local hero.

Why not Ricky Hatton vs Wayne Rigby.

Admittedly, I don't like it and its a huge backward step, but at least it will be exciting for however long it lasts.

Understand where you are coming from Stu, with JC Johnson on the bill there isnt so much pressure for SN to find a buig name opponent more is the pity. But I cant see it being a name that will be familiair(ish) to the brit public domestically.

More likely to be a more mercurial foreigner I reckon

I don't know why you'd want to see Hatton v Rigby, Stu. Four years ago it might have made a nice fight but not now.

Jimmy Vincent would be better.

No, I don't want it - I want to see Hatton vs Witter, Pinto, Cotto, Corely or a host of other names.

However, I would prefer to at least know who Hatton is fighting. I thought my boxing knowledge was okay - but my initial reaction to Pederen and Rios was "who?"

At least Rigby will cause an even more electric atmosphere.

Jimmy Vincent will be better, but he'd never make Light Welter in my opinion - he has spend much of his career at Light Middle.

Its just a thought thats all.

For me if Hatton is to take a backward step at least make it a backward step against someone bigger than him. Forget defending that WBU crap just this once.

Just contacted BN and there's no news at all on the opponent...not even a whisper. I wonder if the Hatton camp are waiting for Jesse James Leija to successfully negotiate a fight on Friday night in Texas. I just know allegedly would love to bring Leija over for Hatton. He fits the criteria perfectly: an old man with a decent reputation in the States, but cut-prone and liable to find a way out of a fight if it turns against him.

He's too good, not saying that in a degrading way about Sports Network or Ricky Hatton. Its just Showtime would have been interested (and would still be) in showing Hatton vs Leijla. I just can't see this fighter having a decent reputation in the States - that why I am think domestic opponent. I thought a missed opportunity (one the financially I'm glad of) happend to test the UK PPV appeal of Calzaghe and Hatton, so I really think we are going to be dissapointed.

I'll gladly take Leijla, it would probably be Hatton's best opponent.

Leija's an old man, Stu. He must be 38 and his best days came at super-featherweight (another reason why he must be a target for Warren).
I still say the best two fighters Hatton has faced are domestic: namely Thaxton and Magee.
Incidentally, I was reading yesterday that Joe Hutchinson took his fight with Hatton at five days' notice. Can anyone remember who he stepped in for?

It don't matter who he fights, the fans will still showup and pay for the tickets. One day he may step-up and face a decent fighter. And still WBU champ...

actually i agree, he was decent. He was a replacement, and has won all his fights since losing to Hatton, in quite good class. He beat the useful Hector Quiroz.

Before he fouhght Hatton he gave Gatti alot of trouble, and did well against Camacho jr.

I'm losing faith in RH now.

If nobody has told him yet Sharmba Mitchell (a real world champion) offered him a crack at his world title. Plus he'd fight him in Manchester and showtime would pay his fee. So what happens???? Mitchell looks good beating Stewart and surprise surprise Mitchell is given the cold shoulder!

I'm sure SN will find a top 200 super feather in his 40s for Rh to bash round the ring in June but its a waste of talent if you ask me. He's ready to face a B grade fighter now and it doesn't look likely right now.

Yes, indeed. It's funny how Gary Shaw and Warren can make the Scott Harrison-William Abelyan fight in Glasgow on May 29, but not Hatton-Mitchell.
Hatton had a chance to fight for a proper 'world' title...and let it pass by with barely a whimper.
