Is it me or did Lewis land quite a few rabbit punches which put Grant down?

That and holding and hitting. This was one of those classic HBO specials where they built some chump up and crammed him down the publics throat to be lead like a lamb to the slaughter. HBO is good at overhyping fighters to get beat by their contract stars.

I'll try to watch it tomorrow maybe. For some reason I seem to remember Lewis pulling Grant's head down into an uppercut. I'll have to look for that.

that's because it was his signature move!

The first knockdown was clearly a rabbit punch. The last one was an uppercut with Lewis holding his head down. Grant was knocked down in his previous fight, so it as well known his chin was suspect. But I think that fight goes longer if Lewis did not rabbit punch.

I was embarrassed to have bet on Grant in that bout. I think he was a 21/2-1 underdog.
I probably had been brainwashed by listening to too much Pedro Fernandez drivel.
But yes, Grant was fouled several times by Lewis, and the KO appeared illegal because of Lewis pulling down Grant's head into the uppercut.
But honestly, Lewis would have won anyway.

Grant was floored a few times against Golota...that should have told people he would lose against Lewis.

Thats why HBO rushed him into the Lewis fight. They invested a lot of money into building Grant up and when he got his head handed to him by Golota and only won because of a typical Golota implosion, they knew they needed to get him into a PPV fight for the championship and try to cash in on him before someone knocked him off.

Grant did have some ability; though he certainly was not in Lewis' class. Grant had little defense and didn't have a good chin, which is usually a recipe for disaster against a hard puncher. The Golota-Grant fight was actually pretty fun to watch. Golota almost KO'd Grant early, but Grant came back and it was about even until Golota "imploded" as Klompton said. He quit for little reason. Grant declined significantly after losing so badly to Lewis.
But yes, Lewis got away with a lot of stuff that he should not have got away with. It was poor officiating.

Grant is a guy who I believed was going to be the next decades big man.
I for one at the time believed in the HBO hype and really was impressed
by some of his wins.
But I thought Lewis got away with some things in that fight, though I
think the outcome was ultimately always certainly the same no matter.
