Shame on Sky and Matchroom

Allowing James Toney to compete in prize fighter is shameful.
He was a great fighter he is now virtually incoherent has major shakes looks to be in the early stages of Parkinsons.
Its bad enough when top fighters go on speaking tours when they barely have the ability to speak properly desperate for money.
Now we are using them as cannon fodder.
I don't watch prize fighter anyway cos its shit this is no major koo.
Its barbaric to wheel out a great man who cant quit because your format is on its last leg's and you want a ratings boost.

He didn't recognise Roy Jones!!! Jeez...... there is still time for the BBBoC to act on this.

The man had brain damage since before the John Ruiz fight.

Surely if he had early stages of Parkinson's it would show on a brain scan?

They aren't forcing him to fight are they? and I'm sure fighters have some sort of medical before hand. He wants to keep fighting which is his decision.

Prizefighter is like Johnsons Paint Trophy of boxing and it's just sad to see a legend like Toney in it.

This - it happens, if nothing else is on people will watch it, but no one really cares and makes an effort to tune in.

This could possibly be the worse line up ever......though that said, a few ko's and we could be saying how great it was

No they're not but you'd think after watching last night's Ringside someone from either Sky or Matchroom would have the balls to withdraw Toney.

It was like listening to a drunk dickhead in the boozer.

Im no doctor but he was slurring and shaking disturbingly and given his fighting style it looked to me symptomatic of Parkinsons.
My only knowledge comes from Ali and Roach both of which are cases directly linked to boxing.
If you can diagnose Parkinsons from a brain scan I dont know.
Mine is an opinion I felt uncomfortable watching people with vast more experience of boxing than me and ignore those symptoms.
Especially given they were talking about a fighter being put in an induced coma who has gone on to have a stroke.
Robert Smith could use this opportunity to demonstrate that the board run boxing and not broadcasters and promoters.
I am not naive enough to believe this will happen.

He won his last fight, he lasted 7 rounds longer that towers did against browne in the fight before.
both of these fight happened this year.

i personally wouldn't let him fight. but thats a decision for those giving him a license. not really skys call

at the end of the day, if your going to give him a gig, it's as well being against a shower of duds in prizefighter

Whilst I agree it is clearly an issue that should be left up to medical professionals, there could be a hugely detrimental effect on the sport if something were to happen to Toney in the ring when there were signs before the fight that all was not well with his physical health.

Danny Williams is licenced to fight outside of the UK and it troubles me that his health may be severely compromised by allowing him to fight on.

I didn't watch it, but if it's it true he's slurring badly and has the shakes, then it's obviously a tragedy that people in boxing are enabling this once great fighter to take part in a low rent shambles like this.

And when he's stumbling around in the dark a few years from now, where will Smith, Hearn and all the rest be ? As far away as possible, and no doubt looking in the other direction.

Even before hearing this I didn't want to see one of my all time favorite fighters still going 10 years past his prime - I never watch the prizefighter crap anyway - but well done the Hearn, Smith and the british board, you've all managed to hit a new low.

And if anyone says a boxer should be allowed to continue as long as he wants to, and others should never step in, just take a look at the recent heavyweight tragedy last weekend.

How is it shame on matchroom and sky???

Do you think they are silly enough to let a fighter box without a proper medical? If he is cleared fit and prepared to do it why is there any liability with sky or matchroom?

If you dont like it dont watch

Yeah you're right, there's no such thing as punch drunk fighters - it just can't happen these days

Totally agree with the OP. This is shocking allowing a man like Toney to appear on Prizefighter is such a cycnical move and shows little compassion from Hearn. A great fighter, who has abused his body and continues to fight, and slurs so badly you can't understand him. Its awful to use him as a gimmick to sell tickets.

The whole lineup is a disgrace.

Sky and Matchroom have no lower level to the depths they are prepared to sink.

It really isn't Matchrooms problem.

The responsibility lies with his family and those close to him, not with the promoter and network. If he had been deemed unfit and they were trying to find ways to get him a license? Then I have a problem.
