didnt chavez Jnr not have an amateur fight? just turned pro i thought i read somewhere, Also quigg not a world champion thai boxer? same as Ronnie clark who world champion kickboxer and had 5 amateur fights. other disciplines an expierience

I may be mistaken but I remember Scott boxing for England against Ireland. I think he was part of a team that consisted of among others. British champions Kevin satchell, Paul butler. Liam smith George groves and Tyson fury

Think Barrera was only 15 too

Dwight Muhammad Qawi didn't have any amateur fights. He learnt his boxing in prison, when he came out he went straight into the pro's. One of the toughest light heavies ever.
Come to think of it, did Bernard Hopkins have any am fights?

Scott Quigg is probably the best domestically, started thai boxing at 9, 12 amateur fights including a junior aba title then turned pro at 18.

Jon Thaxton did well and I don't think he had much of an amateur career; I think I remember reading he was a kickboxer who then turned to boxing.

That may have been gilding the lily a little, like saying that a schoolboy champion in Britain is the national amateur champion.

Perhaps, but it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility for a 14 y.o Barrera to be beating up grown men. Or maybe there isn't much of a Senior Amateur scene in Mexico, if boxers are turning over at 15/16.

It wouldn't be beyond the realms but unlikely; on the BoxRec biography it says that Barerra turned pro at 15 and was a 5 times Mexican amateur champ, can't see him winning at 9 years old so maybe they were for different regional titles. I'm sure Mexico has a pretty good senior amateur regime, they compete regularly in Pan American games, World Championships and the Olympics, Barerra was a fantastic boxer and there's no need to bolster his achievements by saying things that don't hold up to scrutiny.

Jose Luis Ramirez was 14 and he did fantastic, what a good fighter he was - I think Pipino Cuevas did the same at 14 years old.

Matt Skelton done awesome for no amateur or little boxing experience, Pele Reid im sure didn't have any amateurs. Did scrap iron Ryan have any ? I seem to think he never had much. Adam Foggarty no amateur experience if any of you can remember him ? I shared a gym with him at St Pats Leeds. Hasim Rahman only 7 amateur fights wow.

Not sure if Roberto Duran ever boxed amateur but I maybe wrong

Ryan boxed for Saint Monicas and had a good knock out ratio, (about 12 KO's in 14 bouts) - he got to the semi finals of the ABA's and got dropped and stopped by Georgie Smith from Canvey Island in 1991.
