I'm talking a good "boxing" display where they've beaten an unbeaten prospect or something where noone really thought they had a hope in hell but they proved to be better than a lot of people thought they were. On these shores I mean. There's a lot of insiders on here who go to a lot of shows and know the scene a lot better than me so yeah im interested on this one!

Most journey men are more than capable boxers but the fact is if you start beating prospects/house fighters you won't get any work simple as that mate

Steve Robinson when he won the world title

Pavels Senkov recently stopped Tenneyson who was 8-0 in round 2 in their bout.

Whilst not a win Daniel Thorpe nearly turned over a young Sheffield prospect in Liverpool a few years ago. Thorpe really went for it after scoring a knockdown in the final round...

Neil Swain was beating Paul Ingle up until he got hit with a very low blow, that was a bad decision.

Bernard Paul hadn't done great and had a spotty record when he knocked Jason Rowland out in 1 round.

Alex Spitko knocked out Willie Bilan in a couple of rounds - Bilan had never been hit that hard before - it was man v boy, I felt sorry for Willie.

So what confines someone to being a journeyman vs being a prospect with a nice looking record? Is it purely about whether you're a ticket seller or not or an olympian or whatever?

Dennis Berry beat Neil Sinclair and he'd lost a few times and was not expected to win - both good fighters, Berry really went for him.

For me one of the best performances of recent years was that of Geraint Harvey wiping the floor with widely touted and highly skilled prospect Tony Doherty. Don't think Tony ever fought again and Geraint only had one more fight - often wondered whether he might have been frozen out.

I have always been impressed by Youseef Al Hamidi. Really good wee boxer. I saw him turn over Jason Hastie up here. Was a total shut out 60-54 I think it was.

Seen Al Hamidi look the part against Anthony Crolla on a Khan undercard a few years ago.

Terry Carruthers went through Trevor Crewe with ease on a Steve Wood show back in 2009. Awful snow that day but Carruthers was worth the hassle. Funnily enough, Al Hamidi fought on that bill. He lost to Stephen Jennings over 4

Jimmy Vincent was like a machine against David Walker, just walked through everything Walker had and gave it back in return.

Obviously should have got the result against Barnes as well. Amazing that Michael Jennings managed to stop him in one round (i'm sure there were mitigating circumstances at the time??)

Najah Ali beat Michael Maguire and that most certainly was'nt supposed to happen.

This one for me - not so much when he actually won the title, but who he beat afterwards (Paul Hodkinson, Colin McMillan, Duke McKenzie - all top, top, lads).

I saw Sam Webb get bashed up by a kid whose name I forget, but was from Wisbech. Been DQ'd a couple times I think. Webb had only had 5 fights himself mind you. Fans and banners everywhere. They wouldn't have been happy.

Ali Nuumbembe taking the C'wealth of Kevin Anderson. I beat the bookies that day, but you couldn't really call Ali a journeyman by any stretch. Unknown, yes, journeyman, no.


Thompson - Haye (again, maybe I'm getting journeyman and underdog mixed up).

Jimmy tore him a new arseole and they still gave the verdict to barnes
was one of the worst robberies Ive seen in the ring.

I seem to remember Nuumbembe got shafted against Barnes as well.

Nice boxer was Ali he lived in one of the posters houses I remember? didnt have a pot to piss in.
