Does he want to be one? He can have all the knowledge in the world but if he lacks the interest, commitment and drive he'd do more harm and good. He's only been in the game for the past 10 years for the love of the money, not the sport. I can see him totally walking away from boxing.

Speech and communication problems aside a fighter as talented skilfully and full of patient old skill tricks and subtle skills in his prime how the he'll is he going to have the patience to train some nickel and dime peon who may or may not turn up to train and he sure as he'll isn't gonna do it for nothing.a shame as these old skill skills are being lost and the fact is as far back as 1996 toney looked a shot fighter in comparison to his magnificent 160-168 prime before weight draining got to him.it's a measure of what a unique talent he was that he wasted 6-7 years at cruiser before he went on to be a formidable ( for the cave) hw he took on prime Peter and rachman twice and they were never the same.he would have given the klitchkos he'll circa 2003-2007 and I think he would have beaten vitality and valuev

There's a difference between knowing something & be able to teach it or pass it on.

Mike Tyson has an encyclopaedic knowledge of boxing too, but I couldn't imagine him as a trainer.

It takes a specific mindset & dedication to be a trainer & I'm not sure Toney has that.

He'd make a great trainer with plenty of sole

Apparently he is always in the gym. When he walks away what better way to stay involved?

I doubt he could be a good trainer but i think he could be a good motivator,things he would say to a young fighter would make them feel invincible. But i could also see him being abit of a "when i was boxing no one would knock me out and when i was fit no one would beat me" type of person.

He told sky sports Ringside that he wouldn't become a trainer because there are no fighters out there these days who want to learn.
Shame, as he should pass on the knowledge he learned from Bill Miller. Miller schooled Toney by watching Ezzard Charles, Ray Robinson etc and Toney certainly gained from that tuition.
He may change his mind but for now he, rather sadly, carries the opinion that he will still become the undisputed Heavyweight champion.
