Froch-Groves 2: should there be a rematch?

For me it has to happen. Groves clearly could have continued and deserves a settler. If Froch is the man he says he is he will man up and take the rematch. He goaded Kessler for years claiming contreversy in their first fight, he refused to accept he lost. Now he's on the other side of the fence I'm keen to see how he deals with the situation.

Going on post fight interviews my gut feeling is he will dodge the rematch. If he does he will go down in my estimations, big time!

It's clear from the conference they'd much rather not take it, especially the comments from McCracken about Groves style. I think it would be wise of them to find an excuse to duck out of it, either take a fight with more money to retire on, or an easier fight to retire a champ. I suppose as always depends on what the options are and how much SKY want it. I'd be surprised if it didn't happen.

Did Groves give Degale a rematch? Or Kenny Anderson?

Just asking!

Those also weren't ppv world title fights between champion and mandatory, or as controversial. Silly comparison.

Pretty sure a very debateable points decision is more rematchable than a KO, however preemptive the stoppage might have been!

Sure, i can see a rematch....

..... if Froch wants to lose his 2 world titles. Someone get Mack or Bute on the phone. Froch is garbage.

Though Groves was winning, and the stoppage was early, I think Froch would've stopped him in the next round or so anyway. So, I'm not fussed either way.

But I do think Groves deserves one. He can claim it was controversial, and it's got the public interest now. So if it doesn't happen, it would seem odd. It'd make money. And the above prediction of Froch is just my opinion, and can't be proven.

Saying that, I'm not sure I'll give Eddie another £15 though for the rematch though. It leaves a bad taste that the referee ran in a bit too early when I'd spent money just to the honour of watching it in my own living room.

How on Earth do you arrive at the conclusion that Froch is garbage?

DeGale could have gone either way and there will likely be a rematch down the line and Anderson was stopped, he had no claim to a rematch. Neither was controversial or a robbery.

There'll be an immediate rematch and Froch will win easier this time. He'll counter and not lead and stop Groves inside seven rounds.

He couldn't get out of the way last night, Groves hits harder and will only get better, Froch isn't going to improve. It seems like people are trying to cover their arses about their predictions of Groves being blown away by saying that he would have been stopped if the fight carried on and that Froch will find it easier next time.

Watch the fight again. As soon as Carl makes the decision to wait for Groves to throw the right hand first, the fight turns around and Froch starts countering. Watch the last two rounds again, that's what happens.

He still got hit with the right hand, he couldn't get out of the way of it because Groves was too quick, Froch will get slower and taking right hands like that throughout the fight wouldn't get him anywhere.

Agree to disagree. Last night, the fight went into deep water and Froch won it. Next time, he'll do the same.

As Kevin Bacon says in those annoying EE adverts in the cinema, it's a no-brainer.

Froch should not be allowed to fight anyone that isn't called George Groves in his next fight.

Groves is a level above Froch in speed, style and power. Froch looked shot and every day of his 36 years; Groves would destroy him in a rematch. Froch makes an ass of himself everytime there is a microphone in front of him. Groves will have made many many fans last night and Froch will have lost many, the man is plain crass and classless.

Shot fighters don't take big shots and keep coming. Shot fighters can't take a big punch, Froch did and went on to win the fight. Bad stoppage or not Froch is not shot.

His balance was atrocious, his defense awful, his speed lacking. Oliver McCall is years shot and can take a punch - that and gameness is all Froch has left; he was very very lucky with that stoppage. Groves was a full level above him.

Froch has always had terrible balance and poor speed though to be honest lol

His boxing ability has significantly regressed since scoring a shutout over Abraham.

I've seen good boxers box too long when they are shot and their coordination is bad, the timing out - it's not about toughness or conditioning or will power - to be fair Froch will always have that, Groves is the better boxer and a far more pleasant man than Froch; I think in 12 months Groves will be a very, very popular champion.

You're clearly very emotional about this Palooka but would you say Froch was starting to come on strong? Did it look like he was working his way back into the fight?

That isn't something a shot fighter would do. I personally think the ref robbed us of an incredible final 3 rounds - I feel Froch was on his way to stopping Groves - or maybe Groves would have sat him down again as Froch waded in. We will never know but it was a great fight, and you also take away from the ability Groves clearly has if you call Froch shot.

I can see where you're coming from and we'll agree to disagree; for me, Froch is not the boxer/fighter he was and in decline, Groves is superior than him and is improving. Froch had a good 30 seconds but Groves had fought back from the ropes a few times. Froch was lucky to get the win though for me Groves has gained an awful lot and Froch has lost a fair bit, his post bout interview was horrible, he loses fans when he opens his mouth, Groves was the moral victor.
