Proposal:

It is always the big question on everyone’s lips when we start nearing the end of a season –
WHAT WEIGHT DIVISION FOR NEXT SEASON?
As you gentlemen know, I am a staunch believer that Managers should have their say in The Sim, because without the support of the Managers –The Sim is an irrelevant nothingness... As much as it pains me to type that.
But before I create a poll for the great debate to begin - allow me a moment to express my sentiments for the season to come.
LET’S TRY SOMETHING NEW:
First off, I do not think that we should keep on repeating weight Divisions that have already been done. I agree that it can be fun to see how seasons can vary from each other – a prime example of this is when Tiger Jack Fox dominated the last Light Heavyweight season but this season (before his Manager departed) he struggled with inconsistency and was nowhere in the top rankings.
So if you agree with my train of thought - that would rule out:
Light Heavyweight season–(since the Great Deletion we have had two of them)
Featherweight season - 20 weeks
Welterweight season - 35 weeks
Middleweight season - 20 weeks
Heavyweight season - 41 weeks (we have had three of them altogether I believe)
Pound-For-Pound season - 30 weeks
There are arguments to be made that the Featherweights and the Middleweights weren’t given their fair crack of the whip due to their relatively short seasons... And while I agree with that to an extent, they are not my suggestions. I feel we could use a fresh approach.
MY PROPOSAL IS:
My proposal is: a “Cross Weight” season – which will compromise of two brand new weight divisions that have not yet been attempted.
The weight divisions I suggest are Cruiserweight & Light Welterweight.
Both weight Divisions have got great fighters in their ranks;
The Light Welters have Mayweather, Pacquaio, Hatton, Cotto, Tszyu
The Cruisers have Holyfield, Nelson, Toney, Bell, Haye,
However one could argue that neither would have enough depth to keep the interest for a full season – but if we put them together, it could be something special.
In order for this to work every Manager would have to pick a fighter from either from either weight class – a “one big guy, one small guy” sort of deal.
(Which harks back to our P4P season, which I would remind people was considered a resounding success.)
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN:
This idea gives us a variety of options - particularly in two key areas:
Key Area One: The Ratings
We could do either keep the weight classes apart and have two different ratings or merge them together. Allow me a moment to explain this a bit further.
If we keep the weight classes apart in the ratings – that essentially indicates that we would be running two seasons at the same time. It means that every Manager would have two chances to do well in the ratings.
However, we could also merge the ratings together, to have one massive overall rankings compromising all the fighters, which could prove an interesting experiment for all of us.
Key Area Two: The Titles
We could either commit two World Titles to either weight class or keep the four World Titles all inclusive and open to everyone. I will explain this a wee bit further.
If we give two titles to both weight classes, let's say for example: Cruiserweight could be given the WBC & WBO Titles, whilst the Light Welters be given the WBA & IBF Titles.
And both be given a minor title – probably the IBO and WBU titles.
Or If we keep the four World Titles open to everyone the title fights become even more significant because the four Title holders become the best out of two weight classes.
SO:
I do genuinely think that there is a lot to be said on this concept and that it has legs to run. We could even use the first 15/20 weeks keeping fighters segregated – then after the halfway point, we could smash down the Berlin wall and make it a bit of a free-for-all.
I am aware that this idea would mean more administration and extra work in to make this daring venture happen... Wouldn’t it be interesting to see 2 Prizefighters run in Week 10?
Then, maybe in Week 20 – the MDT could bring everyone together?
I think that if this Cross Weight idea is put into motion it would probably be one of the most bold steps ever taken by a Sim forum.
One last point I would stress is that the Cruiserweights & the Light Welters aren’t carved in stone, we could do 2 others instead of them.
The only thing I would ask Managers to beware of it overlap between the weights, for example if the Light Heavys were picked with the Welters – then an obvious problem would be Tommy Hearns.
I would invite every Managers to state their “heavier” & “lighter” options – just as I say, beware of the overlap with the dozens of weight jumpers we have seen over the years and bear in mind, the lighter the weight of your heavier – then the lighter the weight that your lighter option needs ot be.
But as I say, my votes are for the Crusiers and the Light Welters.
Have your say gentlemen.
LET’S DO IT!
