McCoy was floored in the 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, and 9th rounds. In all he was down 7 times and saved by the bell at the end of the second round.
In the ninth, McCoy's brother sprayed Root in the face with ammonia while the two clinched near McCoy's corner.
Was the old ammonia trick used often back n 1903
The bout still went to the scorecards in the 10th so it couldn't have been bad enough to warrant disqualification.
