What a idiot this man is? If he cant get 400 hundred people to a show then he should retire because he is obviously crap at his job.

Trying to blame the economic downturn on the poor number, heres an idea Alex try promoting the show!!!!

I fought on a semi pro/amateur show in september in Edinburgh which had a sell out crowd of 2200. This wasnt achieved by my coach (who promoted the show) simply putting on the show. He had posters all around the city, he had articles in local newspapers, he and several of the boxers handed out flyers at Hearts and Hibs games. Its not rocket science.

If professional boxing in Scotland is dying it is the fault of promoters like Morrison and Gimour who are far too lazy to actually try and promote a show.

Dunno about the other divisions, but Gary Cornish is the future of Scottish heavyweight boxing.

Totally agree! I live less than 2 miles from morrisons show this weekend and not seen it advertised anywhere! Same with the Kilmarnock shows - I work with guys from there and asked them if they knew about boxing happening there and they had no clue!

I cant remember the last time if ever I seen an advert for a boxing show in scotland that didnt involve Ricky Burns in the newspapers or on STV. I dont even think Morrison or Gilmour have basic things like Websites or Facebook/twitter. Its beggars belief they could probably get someone to be a social media guy for free or just a couple of tickets to his shows. If he would maybe show a bit of innovation he might actually sell a couple of extra tickets.

2 or 3 good seats and id be the man for that job.

It was probably sold out because the fighters get paid less and the medical coverage is poor which allows them to sell tickets a lot cheaper and there was probably a lot of fights on that show as well. Semi pro boxing should be banned anyway.

How much are the tickets?

Finding it very hard to find ticket information online, anywhere.

tickets are 30 or 35 mate

ringside ones cost more but not sure of prices

Dont agree, Alex has all local fighters who should be selling tickets, Although promotors should be working harder alex is an older man and although he could perhaps get someone in to promote it nobody can expect him too. He doesnt need to promote shows but gives it a go to try help his fighters and they have to work harder. I have had alot to do with ticket sales with Ronnie Clark and to be his sales should be replicated by these glasgow fighters. Home Show Ronnie sells around 300 tickets( with tables also) Away shows in Scotland on notice, Edinburgh he sold 90 tickets, Around 100 on prospect show with 2 weeks notice, and around 70 tickets on short notice in aberdeen. The fighters need to work harder unfortuntly to improve their fan base as scottish boxing for me is on its knees. If these Glasgow fighters can do anywhere near there then a 400 venue between 6 fighters should be easily achievable. Mr Morrison loves the sport and we could do with alot more people like that:)

I don't think boxing has the same appeal it had 10-20 years ago.. Why go out to shows if you can watch allegedly or Sky.. I for one wouldn't pay £30 to just watch Slowey v Hughes (rest of the card is terrible) when I have Ormond v Mathews as well as a good undercard

People would pay to see the right fights! For me slowey should be selling out that show alone! But in al honesty i know how difficult it could be especially at this time of the year! :( If Alex Morrison puts one of his super featherweight fighters in with me i will be happy to fight and i will sell enough tickets to cover both our wages and more?! :)

i just put the thread up as i know quite a few boxers and its frustrating to see them not getting the opportunities to fight and never seem to know whats happening with fights. seems along time ago that Gilmour and allegedly has shows on regular and on sky Tv also, hopefully in future this comes round again but opbviously there needs to be star Amateur that turns over and gets a Deal and headlines shows.

i think the amatuer boxing scene in scotland is decent aswell but generally as its always been the English game is more thriving.

Did any of you guys know a young guy who boxed at our club(York) recently who tragically passed away last week, Shaun Finney? Only 23, and was a Scottish champion.

My mate whos in the army and boxes put a bit on his facebook about him?

did he die in service? , i saw people kept asking but no answers so thought maybe something more personal

No, he was a Traveller. Unexplained at the minute and nobody really knows or is saying much. He was a good fighter though. He beat a good kid in Halifax the week before his death. All York ABC fighters fighting before Christmas are wearing tribute vests.

Crap matchmaking has been an issue in Scotland for years. Still I've known far worse periods for Scottish boxing. Morrison is a dinosaur. His idea of a show is 200 part time gangster in tuxedos paying £150 to have a 4 course meal while half a dozen non-event 6 rounders take place in the background.
