Plenty of people or their dependants have been paid out over the years I am sure the Scottish area secretary can advise on the policy and it's conditions etc well at least he should be able to do barring that your Scottish area representative steward will be able to explain fully you will find that it was or should have been fully explained to you when you were interviewed about your licence application also your manager will or should fully understand the insurance policy

I'm guessing that once again you're whinging about the board, I think the insurance is part of the fees for licensing which is possibly why. If you don't want to pay for it, don't fight, it's there for fighters who are seriously injured so they and their families can afford the effects of that in the future.

Spot on mate ronnie ought to be blaming his manager/promotor about his lack of fights etc instead of the board and yes you are correct the board insurance is included in the boxers licence fee all this rubbish ronnie keeps spouting about nobody wanting to fight him is absolute crap his promotor can make any fight if he is prepared to pay more money simple as that so therefore ronnie ought to take the issue up with his manager/promotor and if he isn't happy with the managers explanation perhaps he should change his manager or why doesn't he promote his own fights coz it's very easy to get a promotors licence

So your advice is to leave a manager while he is contracted. Great advice!! Are you Eddie Hearn?? As for insurance I think the point is Ronnie has a injury and can't work or train due to it. Surely then the boards insurance should pay out as it was done on one of their sanctioned shows. As for getting fights I'm pretty sure this is happening and he has an eliminator so everything Rosey in the garden. You are obviously privy to fighters saying they will fight Ronnie if the money's right? Why don't you give us names and how much they would take to fight. I know of lots that have refused but maybe you know better?? Thanks for your advice I'm sure it's appreciated and I will be sure to tell him to keep his mouth shut as the board is perfect and does everything right.. Every other country should do the same

The boards insurance will only pay out in the event of death and permanent disability which results in the boxer never being able to work again if the injury is only temporary the insurance will not pay out all of this would or should have been explained when Ronnie appeared before the Scottish area council when he applied for his licence hope this clears the matter of insurance up for you

Well really you would be covered by your life insurance for both those reasons. This should be explained by the board as I have read the their propaganda and it make out it's for injury. My point is you pay for an insurance which is optional in everyday life.

If it wasn't explained by the area council at the time of Ronnie's interview also cover can be increased to cover day to day boxing injuries but I believe this to be very expensive indeed if ronnie wants more comprehensive cover he either has to pay more or alternatively take out personal insurance as I said all all of this should have been explained by the Scottish area council when he applied for his licence it is definitely explained to all applicant boxers in the midlands and southern areas

So your telling me that amateur football has a better insurance cover than professional boxing? my friend broke his leg playing amateur football and got an insurance pay out, a pro boxer breaks there hand and they are not covered? Surely if thats whats on offer insurance then it has to be optional. Ronnie is the same as anybody else and has a family to support like ourselfs so surely you can all relate!!

Yes mate you are spot on in what you say but as I said this should or would have been made perfectly clear to ronnie at his interview

Yeah for sure should have been made aware and maybe he wasnt. I spoke to Ronnie last week and im sure he said to me that when he was at the board meeting one of the stewards told him to contact board for insurance and hes obviosly done it and been told hes no eligible. I hope someone can just clear it up and give a straight answer who knows the information, does amateur football have a better insurance cover than pro boxing?? if it does these boxers should kick up a fuss and get it sorted. They have to get medicals etc every year for there own safety fair enough but yet they are on the cheapest insurance policy available where they are only covered by death or disability. Unreal!!

The information is correct mate the boxer is basically covered for death or permanent disability and yes boxers need to take it up with their area council in the first instance especially if this wasn't explained to them at interview as I said in the midlands and southern areas this is definitely explained fully to all applicant boxers at their interview they are also told to either contact head office to ask about upgrading their cover should they so wish or take out private insurance as board insurance is only worse case scenario cover hope this helps make things clearer about the board insurance cover

A boxer getting life insurance would be incredibly expensive and very few companies would be prepared to cover someone that boxes because of the risks it brings. As for 'propaganda' that's absolute bollocks, anyone with a brain knows it's to cover the fighter incase of serious injury. You have to pay for it because of what happened with Michael Watson, the board need to cover their own back to avoid being sued if a fighter's seriously injured as they can't afford the compensation or legal fees.

That's down to the club's insurance and will only be paid out if a fighter can't work through no fault of their own. Insurance won't pay out if you've broken your hand punching someone as it is deemed to be your own fault.

Some clueless people on here fair play.
Work out the cost of license fee if insurance was taken out for any injury suffered whilst boxing.
Approx 900 pro boxers licensed in the UK.
Compare that to the amount of licensed car drivers.
Now compare the ratio percentage of risk of injury for the 900 boxers v the millions of drivers.

Private insurance is always available. Its expensive for a reason.

Very wise words mate if the board insurance covered every eventuality including loss of earnings the boxers licence fee would need to be somewhere in the region of 4/5 k a year minimum if people think £100 is too much what would they think of the alternative ?
