Scott Quigg needs to step up he's opposition that fly weight he fought few weeks back was an awful match up, Salinas I thought edged it but could of gone either way. I still struggle to comprehend how he is the world champion.

Ricky Burns- big fan of him but he's had a bad year controversial decisions , poor opponents and the ongoing court battle with allegedly. I kind of wish he stayed with allegedly for at least the unification match up with Miguel Vazquez. I don't see him in a better position now than he was last year. This upcoming fight in my opinion is all wrong for Burns. Crawford is very effective in what he does

So if Froch chooses to fight Ward and loses, and if Burns loses to Crawford we could only have 1 in a few months time, not looking good at all.
How many do we think we will have by the end of next year?

Taking the highest level of belt in each of the 4 major ABC orgs (so ignoring a "Normal" champion when there is a "Super" Champion and completely disregarding Interim champions), as of 10th December 2013, the following is true:

- There are 58 titlists across 17 weight divisions and 4 major belts
- There is one vacant belt (IBF Bantamweight)
- There are 5 double belt holders (Adrien Broner, Danny Garcia, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Juan Estrada, Liborio Solis)
- There are 2 triple belt holders (Floyd Mayweather, Wlad Klitschko)
- There are 22 different nationalities with belts, split as follows:

11 - USA
7 - Japan, Mexico
4 - Russia
3 - Cuba, Germany, Philippines
2 - Argentina, Kazakhstan, South Africa, UK, Ukraine
1 - Cameroon, Canada, China, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Panama, Poland, Spain, Thailand, Venezuela

By region:

25 - North and Central America
14 - Asia
13 - Europe (inc Russia)

Down to 2, but there's plenty on the fringes. Hall, Rose and Brook are in world title fights next, Gavin, Saunders, Smith, Macklin, Murray, Chisora, Groves, Degale, Khan, Frampton, Butler and McDonnell are all moving into that class. Not all will win world titles, but some will. Throw in prospects like Callum Smith and there's always the odd one like Ricky Burns that comes from nowhere to win a world title.

It's highly likely that Hall will pick up the title that was stripped from McDonnell the other month.

I would be hugely surprised if Hall beats Malinga. The only way he does is with some scorecard generosity.

It's not inconceivable that this time next year all of the following could be title holders - Carl Froch, Ricky Burns, Carl Frampton, Tyson Fury, George Groves, Martin Murray, Kell Brook, Scott Quigg - while the following will almost certainly have a title fight along the way - Dereck Chisora, Nathan Cleverly, James DeGale, Matthew Macklin, Brian Rose, Amir Khan, Jamie McDonnell, Paul Butler - and then you have some outside chances who could get lucky - David Price, Tony Bellew, Frankie Gavin, BJ Saunders, Lee Selby, Kevin Mitchell, David Haye.

There's plenty of reason to be positive about the state of UK Boxing.

Malinga's not really done much to deserve his lofty IBF ranking, much less beat anyone of note. His sole biggest win is a stoppage over a ridiculously old/faded/shot Sahaprom about 6 years ago. He's been horrifically outclassed each time he's fought anyone at world level.

Beating Perales, presumably. We all know how/why he's got this vacant title shot, it's been done to death.

well not long ago, during this year, we did have barker, cleverly, McDonnell (who didn't lose his title in the ring), burns (who kept his title but should've lost it in the ring), not to mention froch.

There was the time we had 7 just before Hatton fought Mayweather. We haven't had more than 4 at any one time this year though, Barker won his title a few hours after Cleverly lost to Kovalev.

I like Nada, he's a good fighter

an up and down year but you can add stuart hall to the list.

we've had great fights: McDonnell-ceja, hall-malinga, barker-geale (astonishing effort), froch-kessler (concluding one superb rivalry) & froch-groves (perhaps starting another, or not).

some more competitive action: burns-jose gonzalez.

desperate disappointments: cleverly-kovalev, McDonnell losing the title outside the ring, barker-sturm (the fight turned out more like how barker would've fared vs golovkin or a prime pavlik, injury notwithstanding).

controversy: froch-groves ending, burns-beltran decision.

more: quigg's regular title, moving him possibly toward sensational matches vs Frampton and spain's kiko Martinez.

and: macklin & bellew giving it a go vs the hardest puncher (golovkin) & the best fighter (Stevenson) in their divisions, en route to stoppage losses away from home.

GREAT, EVENTFUL YEAR & we barely missed haye and khan from the world stage.

how many guys have we even got that are top 10 in there divisions?

CW - none (Afolabi so doesn't count
LHW - arguably none after recent defeats, though i'd say that bth Clev & bomber scrape in.
SMW - Froch & Groves ( though on paper Groves may not cut it)
MW - Murray
LMW - none
WW - Brook & Khan maybe, but again definitely at the lower end
LWW - none
LW - Burns
SFW - none
FW - none
SBW - Fampton & quigg
BW - Mcdonnell at a push


and none below them weights either.

The Ring, although not necessarily the most reliable, have 17 British fighters ranked top 10 and I'd expect Hall to be added pretty soon now he's won the title.
