Should spoiler alerts be compulsory?

I keep on seeing the same issue when I visit the site on a Sunday. Lots of threads, and thread titles, that blatantly give away the results of fights. You have one group of users who find this infuriating and another who feel it's okay as it's a boxing forum, why visit if you don't want to find out the result of a fight.

I can understand both points of view on this one. Luckily I stay up late to watch the fights so personally haven't had a fight spoiled. One thing I have noticed however is fights being spoiled in the 'wrong' section of the forum. For example threads about the outcome of Maidana Vs. Broner in the British & Irish section. Is the British & Irish section for British & Irish fans, or British & Irish boxing chat? Something that has always confused me.

Anyways what do site users prefer, spoiler or non-spoiler alert?

I just don't get why people need to go on a boxing forum when trying to avoid results?

No. I don't log on on to Boxrec until I've seen all the fights I want to see from the weekend. If that means I don't come here until Tuesday / Wednesday sometimes then so be it.

I don't know why anyone would think an open forum can be controlled in that regard.

Me too, watch the fight before you come on BoxRec else you're likely to see something; it seems common sense to me.

I understand what you are saying, and that's why I'm asking the question about the British & Irish section of the forum. Is it a place to discuss British & Irish fights or a place for British & Irish members to discuss all things boxing? If it's supposed to be a place to discuss British & Irish fights then I can understand why people get angry when international results are given away in the thread titles.

So if there is a "Frankie Gavin - future opponents" thread and someone mentions Broner as a potential name coming back from his first loss last night, would that still be out of order?

Plenty of British threads can branch into international territory.

If there are fights on SKY and allegedly at the same time, it can be tough, especially if you like going on the RBR threads, but that's the chance you take.

I got a right lashing for spoiling the result of the Sprott-Gerber fight, back when I didn't have allegedly and didn't know the fight was on later that night.

If you don't want to know the outcome of a fight then logging onto a boxing forum should be the last thing you do.

Good points. Surely the point of a forum is for it to be as inclusive as possible and to be enjoyed by as much people as possible. From what your saying you avoid the forums completely for days because you want to avoid fights being spoiled.

Good point. You've just spoiled last nights fight so I can see how people do it without thinking.

Purely because I've been too busy that weekend, and have a particular need to watch a fight without knowing the result.

Broner v Maidana would have definitely fallen into that category.

It is a bit silly to get upset about seeing the results of a boxing match on a boxing forum. It's a bit like going to a whorehouse and complaining about encountering hookers.

In fairness there's nowt the matter with a rub and tug, technically it's not cheating. It's just a very comprehensive cock massage. :OhYes:

Especially if your wearing a condom. All they've done is rub a meat filled balloon. Why my wife doesn't understand this I'll never know :??

Spoiler alerts spoil the forum, there is no need for them. Anyone trying to avoid a fight result should not be on here!

I've been using this forum for over 10 years, i'm on it every other day. The British & Irish section is for Brits and Irish to congregate and talk about boxing. It may not have been the original intention of the forum creator, but thats how it is and it suits me perfectly. I rarely visit the Current Scene, the level of discussion over there is pretty low and unnapealing to me. If the Brit & Irish forum was to be restricted from talking only about British boxing it would no longer fulfill my needs, i doubt i'd continue to visit this site if that happened.

I can understand what you are saying however looking back through the last 3 weeks on the British & Irish forum there has only been 2 international fights discussed, not featuring a British fighter, being Akira Yaegashi vs Edgar Sosa and last nights Broner Vs. Maidana. I think some members are getting confused about what should be posted where. I'm not suggesting you are, but I think this is what causes people to get upset about seeing spoilers. They visit the British & Irish part of the forum because they don't expect to see the result of an International fight being discussed.

A little bit of clarity will go a long way here.

I hear you Chad, but I come on here to talk about boxing with some of my online chums. It's better to talk about international fights in British and Irish, because my brethren are on here.

I missed the Broner fight last night and I've recorded it to watch later. If I wanted to avoid the result, I wouldn't switch my laptop on.
