Kevin Mitchell v Tommy Coyle??

I totally appreciate Eddie Hearn wants to keep Kevin busy in order to "tune him up" for a potential World Title fight next year but does anyone else think that a fight against Tommy Coyle isnt the "tune up" that he needs.

Tommy is a great fighter and he has shown that - but I think Kevin is a step or two above.

Would much rather him fight Rees on the Feb 1st card in Cardiff myself

Rees would be a great match up, tommy not ready for Kevin yet maybe 12 months

Kevin doesn't have the same power that Derry has.. Both Kevin and Tommy are very good boxers. I actually think this is a very good match up. I think Tommy could pick up a very close decision in this fight.

It will not happen, but I`d like to see Crolla in with Mitchell and Coyle in with John Murray.

Yeah I agree with Billy, I would like to see Kevin in there with Gavin Reece. I thought Gavin beat Tommy anyway. Plus I think it'd make a great fight.

That interview on saturday annoyed me- how can you fall out of love with the sport?

Umm based on what? Mitchell has fought at a higher level than Derry has and still knocked guys out.

I'm with forcefraser, I'm not particularily interested in Mitchell vs Rees. I'd rather see Mitchell vs Crolla. If Crolla really thinks he's worthy of a shot at Burns then he should beat Mitchell. I think Mitchell would knock Crolla out personally.

just wish they'd shut up about world titles with mitchell.

it's not all about winning world titles.

plenty of good earning fights out there.

Yeah but fighters want to achieve a goal innit. If you believe you have the ability to be a world champion then that's what you want to try and do. You dont enter the sport thinking I just want to make a few quid. I'm sure there's some that do but I imagine most have some kind of goal in mind and ambition.

I think it would be a good fight but wouldn't mind seeing Coyle going his own way for a bit. Mitchell would be a tough fight for him at this point.

Derry Mathews only looks a puncher because he gets behind in fights and is forced to look for the big shot, to be honest he landed a decent shot against Crolla and got a shitty stoppage, then Coyle walked onto one like Curtis did.

It's not that I dont think Derry can punch as he clearly has power but Mitchell is more proven to me in that regard. If Derry could knock out Murray in the fashion that Kevin did, then I'd be convinced.

Derry is a good puncher at the level hes at not at euro or above that was seen in the marselli fight, what you do get from Derry is 100% every fight

I suppose it depends on the fighter and how far they think they can go aswell though. I doubt guys like Degale and other top class amateurs go into the pro ranks not trying to become a world champion or a british champion atleast.

You're right, the top amateurs that turn pro have been paid a stipend that helps them to live comfortably and some of them have sponsors as well - they don't need to turn pro to make a decent living. I imagine that a top domestic or international amateur will have plenty of ambition - some of them have over 120 bouts against top and recognised opposition, they will have real expectations of doing well in the sport. They are in an altogether different league to someone turning pro with little amateur experience and hoping to earn a bit extra or expecting to become a decent journeyman.

Mitchell v Coyle would be an excellent bout; I think Kevin does hit as hard as Derry and ought to do well now he is more active; Coyle is a very good prospect, I think Mitchell would win but he'd know he'd been in a scrap.

Whilst I agree to a point - I dont think Rees is the fight to give Mitchell a stern test ... Gavin has done bloody well for himself but I wonder how much fight he has left in him.

Mitchell doesn't seem far off shot to me. Coyle would be a live threat in this.
