Hard Road To Glory, I bought it for under £5 on Amazon and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I wasnt expecting it to be anywhere near as good as it was. I thought it gave a really good insight into his early life and then an excellent insight into his career and the struggles he faced before beating Carl Thompson.

Just thought I would mention it in case anyone is looking for some literature for the Christmas period.

Yeah i read it a couple of years ago on holiday and enjoyed it,i remember him being very critical of himself in it and very dismissive of his own heart and bottle

I like Nelson and thought he had a great career considering the setbacks and not many people retire as a World champion, unlike most im also a fan of him on Ringside,seems like a genuine good guy

I have always been a fan and I think he does a good job on Ringside. He is also great when he is deconstructing a fight, which I dont think people give him enough credit for.

Johnny Nelson is a top bloke who, deservedly, got way more out of the sport than probably anybody who saw him as an amateur would have ever imagined. Contrary to what he might think himself sometimes, I believe him to have been a fighter who was exceptionally brave. There are thousands of guys who had more raw potential than him who packed it in because they didn't have the head for it, he kept going.

Knowbody can knock Nelson's boxing he had a decent career taking very little punishment in what I think it's all about!

Johnny has been a remarkable success both inside and outside the ring when you think about it.

I really enjoyed his biography; he seems a really well adjusted and decent man; he must have had real mental strength and under rated physical hardness.

The book is well worth the price and so is Bomber Grahams.

apparently Poundland does various books and this was in there apparently for a quid. I'd been after it for a while but they didn't have it in my branch.
I'll definitely pick it up on Amazon at some point. I've got Herbie Hide's to get through first. I paid one pence for that plus £2.80 p&p. I don't really understand why they give them away like that but I'm not complaining.

Charity shops pay traders to take away the books they don't have space for, as sending stuff to landfill is expensive and bad PR. They move the books on via Amazon at 1p a pop and due to the huge volumes of merchandise they are dealing in can get decent postage rates using Royal Mail's PPI system. This enables them to make a bit more profit on each book (on average). There are businesses shifting millions of books per year like that.

I am Sean Daly …ballerina Johnny claimed to have finished me in the first round to record his first stoppage. Bullshit.It was a total farce and involved zero Queensbury rules. I backed nervous Nelson onto the ropes early on in the round. He reacted by crouching and using both gloved hands to pull my neck down and then raise his knee high enough to inflict a deep cut across my eyebrow. The blood flows freely and the inept referee stopped the fight immediately. The presence of ' ballerina style ' Brendan Ingle ensured the total disregard of the Queensbury rules was ignored. My corner team who included the ' voyeur never had a fight in his life' Richard Jones, offered no dispute to the disgusting decision. However I will give manager Jim Macmillan credit for describing exactly what happened in his book ' An alternative view of a boxers record '. The book emphasised how many shysters, sharks and yellow bellies get involved in the game. Still ,c'est la vie but certainly the only regret I have about that night is not having taken the gloves off and stomped the living daylights out of cowardly Nelson and his scumbag co conspirator referee Phil Cowsill. Indeed I am in better shape than then and full of dormant rage. Anytime Champ and bring Phil with you. If you like to play outside the rules this time will have a different outcome ( No weapons involved ,just fist,elbows,head and feet and of course KNEES )
