HARRISON FURY AS ABELYAN TURNS UP THE HEAT

Scott harrison reckons William Abelyan is all mouth & no heart.

The US based Armenian has been shooting from the lip about what he'll do to harrison when the pair face each other at the end of this month.

Acoording to the 25 year old Abelyan, harrison is going to get badly burnt when he puts his WBO title on the line.

And he turned up the heat last week by declaring that the championship belt is only out on loan. He sneered: "I hope Harrison has been polishing it so its nice & shiny when I take it off him"
And the lippy challenger added that Harrison is going to be "cooked" in the 1st round.

But hard-hitting Harrison roared:

"What the hell does that mean? Cooked? Ill be the one putting his gas at a peep. But its typical of this guy. He did plenty of mouthing off before pulling out of our planned fight in March.
"I couldnt care less what he says. I have a job to do & this character is standing in my way so he will need to be removed.
"The fact that Abelyan is mouthing off tells me that he isnt very confident. Hes trying to talk himself up by sounding self-assured.
"But if he really believed what hes been saying he would have kept his mouth shut because you dont need to tell people what your about if you are genuinely confident in your own ability.
"Abelyan has given himself away. But this will be my second world title fight in the space of 12 weeks & I was away from the gym for only 10 days.
"People will see a difference in me come May 29. I have moved up a notch fitness wise & I believe it will be another couple of years before I reach my peak.
"By then I hope to have another three or four defences before unifying the belts."

When all the "A" fighters move up to superfeather do you mean?

I don't think Fitness is the big issue for Harrison, it is lateral movement, and cutting the ring off well. He also needs to roll under the punches more, because in his last fight he was too hittable and although Abelyan isn't a big hitter, he's a consistent one.

If Harrison mullers him I will gladly eat my words, but somewhere along the line, he needs to add wrinkles to his game, or polish his pressure fighting technique.

I to have given up on a Harrison prediction, the only time I have got it correct was against Chacon and in his last fight. This goes back since his fight with Steve Robinson.

I haven't seen enough of Abelyan to pass judgement, he in the past has been describe (by Ian Darke I have it on tape) as a Journeyman. The quote was refering to Guty Espedas dip in form following his "loss" to Morales in the first meeting ("Espedas even lost to the Journeyman, William Abelyan"). I bet Darke won't be calling him a Journeyman when hyping this fight.

Anyway, without knowing much else about him its hard to make judgement. I do have a new fear for Harrison against fighters as big and as strong as him. I really do think he was in trouble in his last defence. Abeleyan weight fluctuates quite a bit (sometimes he's a superBantam, others he's a Super Feather). He only stands at 5 foot 5, which suggests to me he might not be as physically strong as Harrison's last fight.

His defeats have either come very early in his career or against world class opperators (Lizzaraga and Polo), Polo KO'd him in a round.

So, if anything I am just going to give Harrison a little edge in this fight, cause Abelyan doesn't seem to be that strong and also can obviously get hurt.

Harrison by late stoppage, but put your money on Abelyan.

I just wonder what the options are for Harrison after this fight (presuming of course that he wins).
Looking realistically at Harrison, he isn't good enough to beat the best in this division. He lacks the one punch KO power that would give him a punchers chance. Given the fact that he can't turn a fight against the top guys with one punch, he'll have to out box or out work them. I've seen nothing that would suggest he is able to do this to guys like Pacquiao, Marquez and Barrera. I just feel that these type of fighters would find him too easy to hit, and if you're getting hit too much by these guys eventually you're going to be stopped.
It's a shame really, i love the fact that nothing seems to faze Harrison. I don't believe he'd think twice about stepping in with the any of the above.

Gary Shaw versus Frank Maloney will be interesting in this one as well. No doubt Frank will have Eugene close at hand in case it gets out of hand.

William Abelyan is Ring Magazines 8th ranked Featherweight, who has wins over the underrated Orlando Salido (who is ranked in Ring Magazines top 10 at Super Featherweight) and a prime Guty Espadas. Guty had just lost his WBC crown in what was a controversial decision to the great Erik Morales 6 months earlier. Abelyan won a wide UD over Espadas dropping the Mexican twice in the process, but what was even more impressive was the fact that Abelyan took the fight at only 4 days notice!

also Abelyan is a slick southpaw who is in his prime and full of confidence, so Ian Darke has no reason to tag William a journeyman.

He did though! Not my words and I agree its a good match up and a tough fight to call, especially given Harrison's less convincing performances of late.

Abelyan sounds confident doesn't he? Going by his record he doesn't seem a puncher, but if he put Espadas down twice, you'd think he hits hard enough to get Harrison's attention.
Probably not hard enough to hold him off for 12 rounds though.
Harrison gets a decision or late stopage seems the likely result.

Then he can meet The Pac Man, after Manny has taken care of Marquez and Morales.

I think that Pacman may struggle against Morales, height, reach and power might be a bridge too far.

Well yes, there's not a fighter on the planet who wouldn't struggle with El Terrible. I really do like Manny - how can't you?! But he's got his hands full this weekend, let alone Morales. A real 50/50 affair.

As MW stated, don't write off Marquez - he has all these attributes aswell.

The winner of Saturday's fight, I tip to beat Morales. I would be very confident in that tip.

If Pacquiao can take the power of Marquez well he truly is unstoppable, he's already proven he can outspeed Barrera. I give Barrera the edge in speed over Morales and Marquez an edge in Power of EL Terrible.

If Marquez can beat the hard hitting, lightening fast Pacquiao, I don't know what Morales can do to beat him.

Never seen Abeylan fight so I don't have a clue but all I know is that he sounds quite tasty and Harrison has not looked so handy in 2 of his last 3 fights, even the win over Medina was something of a war.

I really like Harrison and the way he has gone about his career, fighting still-decent ex-champs on the way up, very cleverly matched but there is something about his recent showings that makes me feel he is a hiding waiting to happen.

He hasn't improved in the last 18 months, still does the same things and doesn't appear to have added much to the amoury in recent times. He may have reached his level and top a line Feather on a good night may give him a good spanking.

Yep, the press credentials came through last week, I'm in SF now, flying out to cover the fight on Saturday....can't fornicating wait.

"The injury scuppered Scotts plans to start sparring & he cant throw hooks or uppercuts. He can only deliver straight punches.

"After what happened in the first Manuel Medina fight, when Scott went ahead despite feeling unwell, there is no way he will take any risks. He will fight only when 100% fit"

William Abelyan has vowed to shut Scott Harrison's mouth when he fights the WBO featherweight champion on 19 June at Glasgow's Braehead Arena.
The Armenian is upset by Harrison's prediction that he is going to deliver a "hammering".

"Harrison's got a big mouth and I'm going to shut it for him," said the WBO mandatory challenger.

"He's scared, that's why he's talking big - but we'll see if he talks just as big when he's face to face with me."

The 25-year-old southpaw claims his training has not been disrupted despite the second postponement of the fight following Harrison's bicep injury.

"I'm ready to fight Harrison right now. I have never been up for a fight more than this one," said Abelyan.

Originally from Yerevan in Armenia, Abelyan (23-4-1,12 KOs) moved to America when he was nine and now lives in California.

"It's the world title and the fame I want - not the money. After I win the title I will return to Armenia a hero.

"I have never been back since I moved to America because I wanted to achieve something spectacular before I returned. I will be the first World champion boxer to ever come out of the country.

"The boxing ring is my house and Harrison is not welcome."
