That is a weird fight.
How / why is he going to Abu Dhabi to fight a Cruiserweight with a 10-8 record less than a week before Christmas ?

Christmas if a good time for fighters to look for work, everyone has presents to buy

All that stuff about him having a gig lined up as a bodyguard for celebrities seems a load of bollocks now. That or he didnt fancy it in the end.

I understand that.
But what promoter who has a 10-8 lad thinks "I know, I will pay for Danny Williams to come over from England to Abu Dhabi for this one" ?
I don't know what purse he will get, but the flights and hotel etc. will be a few quid.

I genuinely don't think so. Abu Dhabi has put big money into BJJ and UFC (it owns a stake in Zuffa through one of its quasi-govt entities), but this is 'small fry' in relative terms.
I had a 'debate' on Facebook with the event organiser as I think it's a disgrace putting Danny in the ring, but he's not having it. It's called Thursday Night Fights @ Yas Island if anyone wants to have their say.
I think it will bomb anyway as it's a tough location for this type of thing and most expats fly out this weekend for Christmas.

Is it a rich group putting this on or?

It seems as if Danny Williams would fight the Green Cross Code Man if he could.
There's no longer any point in saying that Williams should retire because he's long past the point of no return.
He will fight until he physically can't fight anymore. :x

Hmm interesting. The guy who started it sounds like the second coming of Bob Arum
![[icon_e_confused.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)
... same career I think. So what was the organisers reasoning for allowing Williams to fight then? If he had one that is.

Believe it or not I was offered today to fight on this card against the lightweight making his debut. Unfortunately I go back to work 2m so couldn't get authorized for time off until 2m if they would let me. I spoke to the matchmaker and hopefully could be considered for a future event. I have no idea how long it would take to get there but i would of been pushing it for time to reach the event weigh in etc.

I reckon there must be some money behind it, some rich Arab has probably paid to use their promotional nous. It's probably a bit of a trial run.
Anyway, hope Danny comes out with a decent few notes and his health in check.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but everyone always speculates when it's something in this part of the world without necessarily knowing how it works, hence the stereotype of 'some rich Arab'.
There could be a relatively small scale investor behind the scenes, but let's be clear, when you're talking about the 'big boys' they don't mess around. Hence the Dubai ruling family were talking to Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy about an Amir Khan fight, not some nobody promoter who has barely staged a credible world-level fight in his career to date.
Abu Dhabi has more money than Dubai but has been investing in the F1, concerts featuring the likes of Rihanna etc, not in bringing Danny Williams to the Emirate! Boxing is not on the radar in relative terms, not least because of the reasons I've already stated earlier in the thread, but if it was, believe me they'd be doing it on a different scale.
There's no 'trial run' going on here, there's no history of supporting credible boxing events here and this event will be in relative terms a 'flop' due to timing, a lack of publicity and a lack of credibility.

Would you rather I had repharsed it to "first boxing card"?
There isn't any in the datebase on here (yet)

Yes, that would be absolutely fair comment mate. Just think it's going to be small scale and a bit of a flop... and I take no pleasure in saying that

I hate it when people on here assume, speculate or make things up, Danny has fought on to provide for his family only and this is his last fight, because he has now qualified as a body guard and has work set up,after this fight,he also wanted to have his last fight in Muslim country, recently Danny went the distance with former world champion and he is in great shape for this fight, but before people on here rubbish him, just remember the entertainment he gave us in fights with Audley Harrison, his one armed win and his bravery against Tyson. The so called rich Arabs are not funding this, just Americans and it is a good card with fellow brit Nasser Al Harbi fighting Gorgi Ungiadze who went the distance with a world champion, fight of the night will be locals Muhammad Ali Biyat Vandal Kabbani, still will be war,a real grudge match, also Stepha Bozic Vpaata Vardaushvili and an American 4x golden gloves champion 4-0 is also on the show, apparently another brit was supposed to be on the show but he won the WBU title, now he is fighting elsewhere, maybe defendin. his belt, the venue is quality

Let's not remember Danny for the Audley fights. One was terrible and he got beat up in the other. If Nasser is on the card, are you sure the venue is big enough?

& how, pray, does that relate to someone commenting on the relative entertainment value of a couple of his fights?
Even if you're his mum--which from your tone I gather you might be--watching him hideously out of shape, trundling after Audley for eleven rounds before decking the dickhead was one of the least aesthetically pleasing experiences of my time watching boxing--live in the bloody arena, no less. & who'd want to remember the shellacking he got second time around?
Your loyalty does you credit. Your scattergun defensiveness, less so.
