Just read this article. Bit shocked to say the least but would be a fantastic way of going out on a high, should Curtis win. Good luck anyway!

One could easily argue that if the end goal was 'to fight for a British title' and the goal is achieved, why go on?

Only if you've shown in the past that you're mentally frail, which Woodhouse hasn't. He'll give what he's got and it'll either be enough or it won't.

He is quoted as saying he would like to go out on top as a champion. Lennox Lewis went out on top as a champion, but he didn't retire after winning his fight.

I know Curtis has been very level headed and honest about levels - but win the british title and there is a decent chance he'll be top 15 in a world body.... then who knows, might be another challenge for him.

Too many people don't enjoy the moment because they're thinking about the next moment. If, at least in your mind at the time, there's no next moment, you get way more out of the experience than you would otherwise. Carpe diem and all that.

Maybe this is Curtis's way of getting himself ready for do or die.

I can understand the decision of reitrement - but dont understand the timing of the announcement.

I really want Curtis Sh*thouse to win this title, I like his attitude, I like his sense of humour.

Curtis for me understands his limits he has fought his way to British Title level, he should be extremely proud of that - I thought in the early stage of his career his limit was area titles - he has proved me wrong with his courage, guts and determination .... after all that I still think he is a ****.

Curtis has done very well for himself as a pro. He is 21-6 with 13 KO's, and although just 7 of those wins came against opponents with winning records, it's still an impressive feat for such a later starter. For me his best achievement will prove to be the fact that Dave Parris had him beating Frankie Gavin, the amateur world champion and potential future world pro champ. Even if he doesn't land that British title (and I hope he can), I think Curtis should be very proud of what he has achieved.

No doubt most British title fights are tough affairs, especially if, like Curtis, you'd have done extremely well just to win one. But there's plenty of people who've had easy defences, David Price is a recent example.

I think the first one was against a fella called Payne, possibly, I'd have to check his record. Then Callaghan. I forget the whole list. I think the one he had when he first won it was expecially tough in my memory. I just remember the other bloke had no yield in him and the punches were thudding. Chilling tbh. Hunter fought a bit like a thresher-shark, just didn't really stop, the other guys were up against something. Some of the British looked harder than the European to me.
The one against Frankie De Milo wasn't especially brutal in my memory so much as a feat of stamina. That was a fcking brilliant match, probably one of the very best contests for the WBF title, if not the best.

this is it folks, this one is for all the marbles, I dreamed about it many years ago, now I have to go out and do it, with it being my last fight I aim to throw the kitchen sink at the champ, ive had a great time in this sport and ive achieved more than I ever dreamed of, becoming the champion of England was brilliant, I loved the all out war with dale miles and I enjoyed going to Doncaster and beating stefy bull up when everybody thought id get beat, I also enjoyed sticking it to Frankie gavin and earning his respect as a fighter, ive announced ill walk away after this fight hopefully as the british champion then id feel as if ive achieved everything I ever wanted out of the game, ,people say about winning it outright but that was never a dream of mine, nor was being euro or world champion, the dream was the british title, nothing more, nothing less, ive been a professional athlete for 17 years with the footie and the boxing and ive had a fantastic life, I feel a very lucky man, walking away when I feel like im just coming into my best years isn't the way fighters normally go but ive never done things the normal way! feb 22nd ill leave with no regrets, ill give everything that night and be willing to do or go wherever I need to to win, hopefully it will be enough, Hamilton is very good but if im at my best I can beat him, ive had a few knockers over the years, people who mocked me and tried to belittle my dreams, I hope I have changed a few peoples minds over the years, ive always tried to give the best ive got and be willing to go out on my shield if that's what was needed, ive never quit when it got tough and always gave value for money and im proud of that, thanks for all the love boxrec has given me over the years, ive appreciated it
