Anybody have much info on Rocky Mosley jr?
He lives in my town now and we've become pretty good friends.
He's told me some of what he can remember of his career. His last bout he won the first round then after the bell ended for the first round he turned his back and his opponent hit him behind the head putting him in a coma for 7mo. Needless to say he never fought again. I met him when I was a kid but earlier this year he came into my gym.
Just wondering if anybody has any Rocky Mosley stories I could share with him.

I wish I could help you, but I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with this fighter. That's a damn shame he was put into a coma that way. I'm sure that caused a lot of damage that he still experiences to this day unfortunately.

I assume he won the fight officially by Disqualification?

Without cameras or instant replay, no, it unfortunately went down as a KO loss.

That makes it even worse. An after the bell back of the head KO. There's 2 clear cut reasons why it should've been a Disqualification.

Was it written about? Because no offense to Mr. Mosley, but if he's saying that's what happened off of memory his memory on the matter may be more than a little fuzzy considering the whole 7 month coma that followed the fight.

I'm not trying to be insulting, I'm just curious if it was written about in a paper or something because I'm sure ringsiders would've been quite disgusted to see a KO win be awarded to a guy under such shady circumstances.

Was based out of Las Vegas, and was a very good boxer. Fought many times at the Silver Slipper Casino
in those Wednesday Strip Night Fights.

Highly touted Light-Middleweight.

Won the Nevada State Light-Middleweight Championship at the Sahara Hotel & Casino on February 21, 1977

Rocky won an easy 12-Round Decision over tough Californian - Jimmy Jackson, who was a sharp southpaw who
had given #1 Welterweight ranked Pete Ranzany his only loss.

The Nevada News reported that Rocky Mosley was only 19 years-old in February 1977, and was now undefeated
in 15-bouts.

I haven't found any articles on it but was told by a very famed trainer outta Vegas that told me that. Not sure if Rocky was told that or read that. Been trying to find anything on it.

A dangerous fight for Rocky, as he was moving up to the Middleweight Division. Johnny Baldwin {Houston, Texas}
was a hell of a southpaw-boxer, and his only blemish was a {Decision Loss} to Marvin Hagler back in December 1975.
But, Johnny only had 1-Bout in the past 16-Months.

It was a great bout, as both boxers were willing to exchange. In Round 3, it was nearly lights out for Rocky, as
Johnny landed a tremendous right-hook to Rocky's jaw, flooring him.

But Rocky got up and came back harder. In Round 4, he dropped Johnny twice. Then with a dazed fighter in
front of him, Rocky unleashed a bombardment on Johnny. The Referee - Larry Barrett stopped the bout after
Rocky landed a series of head punches.

Both fighters were supposed to get $10,000 as a fight purse.

The Fight;

Rocky got off to a fast start in the Opening Round, and out-jabbed Mike who stayed outside. Rocky opened a
small cut on Mike's left eyelid.

Rocky continued with good left-jabs in Round 2, and stayed in command as he outworked Mike.

Rocky stayed aggressor in Round 3. But Mike countered with several right-hand leads, and cut Rocky over his
right-eye.

Rocky continued to press in Round 4. But the action was slow, as Mike backed, circled and hooked while staying away.

In Round 5 Mike looked to counter-punch, and did open another cut on the inside of Mike's left eyebrow when he landed
a sharp left-hook.

Rocky still pressed in Rounds 6 and 7, but his tactics of just left-jabs were now ineffective against the taller and
more elusive Colbert.

After Round 7 both fighters knew the bout was close and up for grabs going into the last 3 Rounds.

But it was Mike who showed superior strength over the last 3-Rounds, as he finally opened up in Rounds 8, 9 and 10.
Mike used quick right-hand leads to keep Rocky off balance down the stretch.

Ask Rocky if anything ever developed with him possibly fighting Ray Leonard in 1978.

Also, Wilfred Benitez in 1980.

Both would have been terrific bouts.

We fought the first ever Nevada Junior Middleweight Title Fight. And we also trained in a training camp together at Johnny Tacos Gym in Las Vegas. I have been asking for him cuz I often go to Vegas. Here is my number 949 353 4877.

Rocky Mosley was a friend of my late older brother who was a professional singer performing on the Las Vegas Strip back in the late 1970's. Based on my interest in boxing my brother became friendly with many of the boxers and managers whom were prominent in the Las Vegas area during that time period. Trainers such as Johnny Tocco, the great Eddie Futch and Stan Tischler who handled both Rocky Mosley and Greg Haugen when Greg was the IBF Lightweight Champion of the World.

If I may, Mr. Jackson/"Mean Machine" was no slouch in his own right, with wins over Pete Ranzany, Pablo Baez and Rudy Barro and a split decision loss to Mad Dog Ross.

I'd be more than satisfied if we had a separate thread just on your career. Thank you for coming on board and posting.

Rocky Mosely Sr. was also a fighter. Believe I read once they fought on the same card. Sr. was murdered at a pretty young age. Looking over Jr's career he fought some tough cats for sure.

I have tons of stuff on Rocky Mosley Jr. My dad fought him for the NABF title back in 1981. Lots of clippings and such!

You must be Rocky Fratto's son then, right?
Tell him that Jimmy Allcorn from Lockport said "hi". I was supposed to fight one of his fighters back in the day, Louie Pagan. But, it was a swing bout & it got cancelled.
