Did any of the Olympic boxing team have a good 2013.

Anthony Joshua looks like a very powerful heavyweight and could go the whole way,
Luke Cambell has great speed but I am still unsure if he has great power (could become a major player with the support he gets in Hull )
Thomas Stalker does not have age on his side and has to step up his opposition very fast if he is going to have a good career
Anthony Ogogo taught he was the next Amir Khan and I dont think the public took to him the way he taught they would,


which of the above have impressed you the most?

which one of these will be the first to get beat?

Of the ones above, Joshua is the one that interests me the most. None of them have impressed me though, they've all done what I expected them to do.

Of the entire team, Nicola Adams is the one who does impress me, and not just for her boxing, she's class.

Joshua and Campbell have impressed me the most, I hope to see them step up the level of competition soon.

Joshua by far, then Campbell. I see Campbell as possibly being a bit like Calzaghe in that he's going to stop a lot of early opponents and has a lot of speed and volume but the power thing could be an issue down the line against better guys. I do think Luke is promising though.

Women's boxing is the real success story of 2012. It is the only sport that has really inspired people and caused a massive upsurge in participation. With the Commonwealth games in Glasgow coming up- I think that Nicola Adams and Natasha Jonas will have a higher profile with the general public than the lads who turned over and will have plenty of opportunities to earn a few quid outside the ring.

Agreed. I've noticed a lot more girls in gyms (all types of gym) since the Olympics, it's good to see. Women aren't supposed to be weak and feeble, look at every other type of animal. More power to them.

Nicola Adams can go on to be a great ambassador for boxing, she was the star of the team really. And she seem to of kept her feet on the ground with all the media attention.
Saying that , none of the 2012 team let themselves down, i thought they were all a credit to the country.

Was there a single minute of women's boxing broadcast in 2013?

Read his second sentence. That is the success we're defining. It'll be on TV again next year with the Commonwealths and for now, there's plenty of stuff on YouTube and the like for girls to see footage of their peers and heroes.

There's no physiological reason why it should be 'pish' though. So, if it is, it's only because it's in its infancy and the talent pool is small, hence the reason why Nicola Adams and co inspiring other girls to hit the gym is such a good thing. That's not about trying to look PC, it's just fact.

Men are bigger, stronger, faster and arguably smarter than women. Who would watch women's boxing when you can watch men's boxing which is a million times better.

Boxing isn't all about men sat in armchairs watching with no intention of participating.

I really rated the welsh kid Evans, thought he was a brilliant box fighter & southpaw aswell!

I agree on Joshua he looks like he's cut from stone.stalkers been a big dissapointment & needs to be pushed along quicker.agogo is extremely likeable & a great personality somthing the sport is lacking

Evans got beat up badly by a Ukrainian in the wsb ,seriously got exposed

allegedly showed a Melissa Mcmorrow fight, so some female boxing had been aired on British TV, TYC Sports in Argentina show it alot as well.

Calzaghe is the wrong fighter to draw comparison to here: Joe was a heavyhanded banger until his hands went - it wasn't a case of stopping lower grade opponents early on and his power falling away as he stepped up class; if his hands hasn't gone his stoppage ratio would have been maintained.

For my money Tony Bellew or Frankie Gavin would be fairer comparisons..

I just want to see how they react when they get hit back. At least Degale fought for a British in his 9th fight.

I don't get why Fast Car doesn't sign Katie Taylor or Nicola Adams. I know women's boxing isn't the greatest, but surely they would sell quite a few tickets, especially Taylor.

Nicola Adams is over 30 and can make enough money off the back of her Gold medal to not worry about turning over, Katie Taylor isn't as old late 20's but is also making massive money as an amateur so there is no need to turn professional unless they really want too.

The 2 might also feel with AIBA doing there own professional boxing they might decide that this is the best route for them?

It's more the fact he said he isn't interested at all which I found a bit suprising. Of course they might not want to, but that isn't what my post is about.

He watched million dollar babe & is against women boxing.ive been impressed by how the females have improved & look good in the amateur boxing but professional boxing gets ugly & I don't want too watch women hurt eachother

There's enough money on the 'amateur' table for the top women that turning pro wouldn't make sense anyway. Both Adams and Taylor will be pulling in considerably more than the overwhelming majority of male pros.
