Joe Louis vs. Johnny Davis (title fight or not?)

Joe Louis fought the unknown Johnny Davis (3-3) whilst heavyweight champion. The NYSC declared this a title fight although it isn't counted towards Louis' 25 title defences and was only a 4 round fight. Whats the story here?

I don't even think it should be counted as a fight, but I don't really know. No way can it be seriously considered a title fight imho.

As I posted in another thread - it was a 4 round exhibition contest. Only the NYSAC deemed it a world title fight due to a stupid rule of theirs. Nobody else considered it as such.
