Congratulations to George Groves on being the BoxRec fighter of 2013; it takes some doing and I hope he has a better 2014 than he did this year. Well done to the ginger assassin

On ring achievements alone, it has to be Froch given the other contenders - Groves, Murray and Barker, all lost fights during 2013.

I actually think Groves's losing effort against Froch will prove in time to be one of the highlights of his career.

A close fight, but hardly a robbery. I felt Martinez under performed whereas Murray was at his best, but still came up a little short where it mattered. I think that fight showed us everything Murray has. Current odds are Froch 1-2 and Groves 2-1 so hardly a strong favourite.

And don't mention the whitewash boxrec poll in Carl's favour if Howard Foster didn't make the call at that moment. Groves was running on fumes whereas Carl had half a tank left.

I don't see how George can be UK fighter of the year. He fought two journey men, one middleweight and got TKO'd by Froch.

In saying that though, it hasn't been a great year overall for UK boxing-wise. We've had Cleverly getting hammered, Barker getting done, Burns holding on to his title by the skin of his teeth - twice, the Haye/Fury farce, the Froch/Groves controversy, Bellew getting KO'd, Price getting beat, McDonnell getting stripped... off the top of my head.

I'm sure Barker would be up there if his fight against Sturm could've been rescheduled to early 2014 and not fought on injured - but who knows, his injury was probably all ready calling retirement. Also Quigg 'won' a world title and so did McDonnell in a great little scrap - something Groves hasn't done. I thought Crolla had a good year as well.

Why on earth do you & others rate Groves so highly?

Regardless how we continue to debate Froch/Groves 1 ... even if you are leniant with Groves in that fight he still got caught a lot ... so if Froch is as bad as some say ... using some logic here surely that means Groves aint that much better.

Froch is a fine world champion, no doubt about that, which makes Groves performance against him an exceptional one. I have never seen Froch bashed up like that before.

I don't know either guy, but they both seem quite pleasant away from fights, and they obviously wound each other up; which is why Froch is not keen on fighting him again- trying to punish him by not giving him a pay day. The trouble is, from what Froch has been saying, it does look like he is not keen to get in the ring with Groves again.

I also think that Groves deserves full credit, because boxing someone like Froch is an intimidating prospect - who wants to get in the ring with a granit chinned, hard hitting, super fit fighter? Not many, but Groves backed himself, was ice-cool and bashed him up good and proper.He deserves a rematch and it would sell out as quickly as Monty Python's new shows.
