Newsboy Brown was greater than several members of your first tier.

I think Valger, Harry Lewis and Battling Levinsky could be moved to 1st tier over Singer, Al Davis and Ruby Goldstein.
Some others to consider would be : Joe Bernstein, Kid Herman, Young Sammy Smith, Phil Brock, Charley Goldman, Charley White, Leach Cross, Young Otto, Eddie O'Keefe, Louisiana, Soldier Bartfield,
Johnny Rosner, Augie Ratner, Phil Bloom, Willie Beecher, Danny Kramer, Frankie Callahan, Matt Wells, Jake Abel, Jackie Kid Wolfe, Willie Jackson, Joe Benjamin, Sid Smith, Dave Rosenberg, Solly Seeman, Eddie Kid Wagner, KO Phil Kaplan, Danny Frush, Johnny Ray, Harry Kid Brown, Jack Silver, Harry Blitman, Ray Miller, Red Chapman, Archie Bell, Joey Sangor, Art Lasky, Harry Dublinsky, Jack Portney, Davey Day, Georgie Abrams, Mike Kaplan, Benny Goldberg, Allie Stolz, Harold Green, Danny Kapilow.
I believe some of these guys were as good if not better than some mentioned above.

Mind if I ask, how so?

I pose this question, because I'm not familiar with Newsboy Browns career.

Saad, could you please inform why Newsboy Brown ranks among the top Jewish boxers.

He's one of the greatest Flyweights of all time & an underrated Bantamweight. Just look at the fighters he beat. Midget Wolgast, Speedy Dado, Izzy Schwartz, Frankie Genaro, Baby Arizmendi, Panama Al Brown, Young Tommy, Pablo Dano, Kid Pancho, etc..

He's a top 50-75 all time fighter to me. Leonard, Rosenbloom & Ross are the only guys I'd definitively rate over him. With Attell & Lewis being arguable.

The other huge Baer brother, Buddy, deserves a mention as well...second tier at a push but like his brother Max he was a truly murderous puncher and out of his 51 wins only 4 guys heard the last bell. A 6'6 heavyweight back in the pre-war days must have made him a much-feared fighter; but he came up short against the imperious Louis (twice) and then moved onto films and showbiz like his older brother as well.

Nice to Gary Jacobs get a mention as well; a proper blood and thunder merchant (much loved by Mickey Duff) with a big streak of Glasweigan attitude. Seem to remember him being a regular on Sports Night as a kid and 'taking one, to give one.' His fight with George Collins, much-hyped at the time, went straight into my schoolboy scrapbook. Jacobs beat Collins but ultimately ended-up getting the shortest of short straws with a title fight with Whittaker in the States.

The Baers weren't Jewish. Under Jewish law, one is a Jew through one's mother. Max's mother wasn't Jewish. His paternal grandfather was Jewish. I recall one sportswriter saying Max wasn't Jewish. How did he know? "I saw him naked in the shower . . ."

Ruby Goldstein doesn't come close to being a first-tier Jewish fighter, let alone a second-tier one. Yes, he was a promising fighter with fine boxing skills and punching power, but his lack of durability held him back. Georgie Abrams, Battling Levinsky and Newsboy Brown had far better careers than Goldstein.

Oakland Jimmy Duffy (real name- Hyman Gold) was a Jewish fighter and a native of Brooklyn. Possibly the most popular boxer ever in Oakland, California, Duffy piled up a fine record during the Four-Round Era in California, but didn't do nearly as well in longer bouts.

'The Manassa Mauler' aka Jack Dempsey was of mostly Scots-Irish and Cherokee Native American extraction.
However he did have some Jewish ancestry.
His paternal great great grandmother was Rachel Solomon of Philadephia.
I think his promotors tried to promote his Jewish heritage very early in Dempsey's career in New York

Danny Kramer, a Jewish southpaw, had an interesting career and lost by a TKO in the ninth round to Louis "Kid" Kaplan in a vacant world featherweight title bout during 1925.

Some truly great fighters mentioned in this thread.

I can add the names of three more Jewish Brits who I think are worthy of inclusion: Harry Mason, Mike Honeyman and Young Joseph.

Ray Miller a Jewish fighter from Chicago was the only man to ever stop Jimmy McLarnin. He also beat Billy Petrolle, Sid Terris, Eddie Shea and Mike Dundee, and was never stopped in 100 bouts against pretty consistently solid opposition.
