Not sure if the following link will work because of the Fr&nk allegedly filter here on Boxrec but I'll post anyway:

I know his column in the Sun isn't to everyone's taste, and neither is he, however one thing I'll say about Fr&nk is he does get rather defensive when people try to talk down the sport.

Much better than his usual weekly put down of other promoters and fighters.

How long have we been reading "boxing is dying"?

Without trying to sound intelligent, I swear we follow the most cyclical sport out there, every generation has a super star, they retire, we hear that the sport will die...then someone else emerges. Advantage right now however is that we can see fights from around the world and follow the development of future stars even if they aren't British or American or German...

That's my feeling too. Boxing and boxers are more accessible than ever thanks to the internet and multiple channels showing boxing programming. Whilst I would love to see more British world champions, and more world class fights on our shores, I think the majority of boxing fans see past nationality and are able to appreciate and enjoy great fights and fighters from around the globe. Whilst terrestrial TV has shied away from boxing in recent years I'm fortunate to be able to afford SKY Sports, BT Sports and allegedly. I've been a massive boxing fan for nearly 4 decades and I swear I can't remember there being so much coverage on TV as their is now.

While it's true that live boxing seldom features on the terrestrial channels these days, neither does Premier League football, Test cricket, England's rugby union internationals or Formula One.

Good point and a real sobering thought.

People today aren't treated to the good stuff of days ago. Grandstand, Saint & Greavies, Dickie Davis, wrestling on ITV on Saturday lunchtime. I used to hate it but imagine horse racing filling the Saturday afternoon slot for 4 hours on BBC1 these days!

I read said article today in a copy of the Sun I found in the canteen at work.
It was as if he had had a scrooge type epiphany and was addressing the balance.
Credit where its due it was good to see.
If he follows it up by using his status as the most recognisable face in British boxing.
To bring a balanced weekly report to the masses that'll be great.
But given who we are talking about I doubt it.
I live in hope definitely a positive article though.

Euthanasia for all Daily Mail writers sounds good.
A cynical view point but he is going to defend his livelihood and he has one of the best platforms to do it.

I don't really think he's a coward, you know.... Just hoping a few would bite. You don't count, you were a cert!

I read that, and my take on it was that Fwank had taken the comments personally, as many of the criticisms were consistent with decisions he's taken, or changes he has helped influence, over the time he has been promoting in the UK.

On the other side, he makes lots of valid points too and many of the changes to the sport are a reflection of the way times have changed. The article is a lot more positive than the usual bitter bile. Hope it continues.

Reading Benn/Eubank book, The Hate Game is quite interesting to see what happened with terrestrial coverage. I think it comes partly down to attracting advertises to the prime time spots. Advertisers are wary of how much of 'an event' they are signing up to, with late minute withdrawals and variable quality of matches. And also in the wake of fights like Benn/McClellan, the tv execs are squeamish at the possibility of broadcasting human tragedies on prime time slots.

Not a good article by Patrick Collins who is barking up the wrong tree but...

Fwank highlights that there is no live Premier League football, Test cricket, England's rugby union internationals or Formula One(?) on terrestrial tv but that is surely not through terrestrial tv's choice but more a case that they simply cannot justify the outlay of having to outbid the likes to Sky and BT. This isn't the case with boxing. There is no exclusive rights/package and as Channel Five have shown individual deals can be done with individual promoters. However despite this, and many top promoters recently being cast aside by Sky and desperately looking for a tv deal, terrestrial tv choose not to get involved. Though we do not know exactly why perhaps we should be looking beyond blaming Audley and looking at things such as the cost, where the money is going (specifically to the alphabet boys), and exact value for money return of what the likes of Fwank would be offering as championship boxing - a simple case of too many title fights not doing what they say on the tin.

I don't really understand Fwank's comment about how many title fights Barry McGuigan and Frank Bruno both had and won ; they weren't fighting the likes of Damon Reed, Branko Sobot or a semi-retired Nicky Cook with a bad back. Neither were Colin Jones or Tony Sibson. Which to me says a lot about both the decline in quality of world title fights and also imports brought to these shores by the likes of Fwank.

Also, wasn't Dennis Andries being promoted by Fwank when he was carrying his WBC belt in a bag on the train? If so, careful what you say Fwank
