Maybe that's why he talks about him so much. If he can make everyone believe that he's somehow less of a Man, then maybe that makes his being in Love with him ok.

They laughed at me and made jokes, but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, and with geometric logic, that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox did exist! And I'd have produced that key if they hadn't pulled Caine out of action! I-I-I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow officer and!......(realizes he has been ranting, babbling)

The only 'mixed match' I was aware of that almost took place involving Sammartino was with George Foreman. It of course never happened, but for a while it was gathering alot of attention--- Sammartino even did a documentary on television and a documentary movie about his life directed by George Romero, where he mentions that he wanted to prove to people that despite the pageantry of some, he was a legitimite athlete and attempted to fight Foreman--- but the money wasn't enough for Big George.
