we ALL say that there should be 1 worlds champion.....like the good ol' days.I believe 1 champion in each division would be beneficial to all..better competition between contenders, and less misleading fights for the paying spectator and viewer on television.

But is this feasible in this day and age?

How could this be done?

Would today's promotors and T.V. companies ; who rely on spurios matches for spurios titles allow this to happen?

How could we arrive at an omnipotent rating and rankings board; which is above reproach; to get our sport back where it belongs?
Has someone got the balls to do something about the current situation of 87(o.k. exaggerated) world champions.

Can we ever look at a fighter again and say "Hey champ" ?
Or is boxing resigned to being a money game?

I would be interested if anyone thought this ideal could be achieved and how.

This is something I've been thinking about for years. The relatively small fan base surrounding our sport nowadays is why TV companies, promoters and sanctioning bodies have been allowed to turn the world title scene into a fiasco. Pressure from fans would have cracked these self-serving elements years ago, but not today.
Boxing, sad to say, has become a minority sport.
That's not to say we don't have a voice. Low ratings and empty arenas are still embarrassing for the powers that be, and if fans stayed away - or didn't tune in - when a spurious title is at stake - and did the opposite for a proper title show, it could make a difference.

I personally don't mind have 4 champions per weight devision, it gives us the opportunity for box off featuring the best fighters. You can't beat a good unification fight for buzz.

The boxing politics does get in the way, but wouldn't that be worse with only one champion. A fighter could get away with fighting poor manadatories and people will never get their title fight. Of course it happens now, at this moment there are other avenues for the geniune contendors to take.

Obviously, in a fair world we would only be having 1 champion and the manadatories will be all of excellent standard. With no boxing politics. Unfortunately I can't see this happening, so what I would encourage is too make the unification matches easier to happen.

Maybe one way out of this is to actually create another organisation, with a good, honest rankings commitee and maybe an accesable and respected figure head (i.e. an ex boxing superstar such as Evander Holyfield). Some of these newer organisation maybe the best for organisation and fairness, but because of the lack of promotion they are not considered worthy.

Twenty years ago the IBF were considered a joke, now it is considered as important and significant as the WBA and WBC, the WBO is also gaining more world wide attention. So I do believe it is possible (with the right propoganda) to create a new organisation, which is fair and it will become the 1 belt to go for.

Thats the only way out of it as far as I am concerned, as each current organisation has its faults.

This is why our sport is considered "on the level"kid's watch wrestling wiyj more credibility!!!!!!!!

WORLD CHAMPION should mean exactly that:

Nothing more nothing less

We all know the sport, and we know the history....

I believe boxing, our sport and love, will not define A champion until there is only ONE recognised champ.
Coz c'mon SKY (for the U.K. fans) cannot carry on serving up WBU/IBO/IBU as top of the bill world title action.
Forgive me......I have watched live shows for many many years, and I am in fact going to a show this week which claimed to feature such bolllx
I had more respect for a Central Area Title bout this week, than I did an " IBO" World Title bout

Now Y'all NOW what I'm saying......

There must be a way back and a future for OUR sport...AND TEH CHAMPIONS WHO DESERVE TO BE CALLED CHAMPIONS

Just ignore the bad belts, what I normally do is consider the likes of the IBO and WBU in the same mold as the WBC international belt etc.
