Thoughts on Audley tonight?

so there we go, audley has struggled to a 12 round points win.

for me he was truly awful. his conditioning again looked useless tiring towards the middle of the fight and never really getting a second wind. his chin still looks suspect, francis got him with a good punch that clearly wobbled audley and outboxed him in the 6th. for me if audley ever fights a fast moving fluid heavyweight witha bit of a bang he'll lose early doors he's far too static to go any great distance. too easy to hit

to put this into perspective francis was 40, past his prime and didnt fight all that well... and he made the self proclaimed future heavyweight champ of the world seven years his junior look awful. on this display i dont think audley is even british class let alone european or world.

he showed again tonight that he cant throw combinations with any fluency or any regularity. a smaller mobile heavyweight would have no problems getting under his lazy lethargic jab and into his body opening him for the uppercut he can easily be hit with as was shown tonight

piss poor

The most interesting part of the fight was the interview: Audley admitting he's about to sell out to Warren.

Do you think he will Bennie?

I didn't quite know what to make of that interview, and the comments about Warren. I'm sure the BBC would want to show that one, but will they want to pay the money for it.

audley looked like total shit in there.

an abhorration of a performance against a man who has already proved umpteen times that he gets whacked out against top guys.

i thought audley would finish jules in round 6 or thereabouts, because of his ponderous style and slow starts, not because he would have been totally unable to do what tyson, klitschko, etc did.

disappointing beyond belief. the heavyweight howard eastman.

Audley is too defensive he waits for his opponent to do something before he does.

Audley is going no where fast, he is defensive and tentative and would be punished by a fitter fighter. He will NEVER survive at top level fighting like that, even people like Etienne and McCline would have stopped him tonight, he was breathing heavy and shipping shots on the inside, body shots and eating jabs. How can he justify himself as a legitimate contender after that fight? Bullshit. Skelton would bully him to a stoppage IMO if it happened, which it never will.

Well I have a completely different interpretation.

I feel Harrison wanted to know he could go twelve rounds - a psychological barrier, if you like - and so he paced himself accordingly.

Yes there were times he could have been more aggressive and followed up a little more but it will come.

I didn't ever really see Audley wobble as referred to above.

Also, credit to Julius Francis for his efforts.

I have a strange feeling Audley's on his way to Sky.

Well, it certainly sounded like the match is close. Frankie gets his man.

go to audley's record and look at that ugly block of red next to julius francis's name. then look across at 'UD12'. It looks truly hideous.

Richie Woodhall is becoming a puppet of the establishment, typical Baggies fan  What's happened to Richie, he has sold out! Who's next for Audley then?

BBC commetary excelled itself as usual.....

'He's lost a few times, but you have to have been pretty special to beat Francis, especially recently.'

(or something.)

What???????????????????

Tyson and Klitschko perhaps.....but:

Welch, Kulpin, Williams, Sam, Krasniqui, Nielsen, Holden, MICHAEL MURRAY, special???????????

And to say that Francis is a big puncher....really....

lot's of "wasn't too far away with the right/left"'s and "not quite connecting"'s every time a punch landed, as usual. Can't wait till Eastman fights again so I can hear all about "Willie Yoppy not too long ago"

Well it wasn't particularly impressive was it?

Where were the combos?

I know that it is a harsh comparison at the moment, but I always try to imagine how Audley's performances would be against the top guys in that division. I shuddered at the thought of Audley tonight against pre-retirement Lennox! :o

John Inverdale said Johanneson-Ferrans was for the WBC super-featherweight title.
And his parting comment: "The bottom line is Audley is 16 and 0, and that's all that matters." Jesus!

Looked a little to me like Audley's repertoire is lacking, he jabbed, tried the straight left a few times but as soon as Francis started to read/slip it is when the tapping started and the overall output went down.

Yeah, and people bitch about Valuev's inflated heavy weight record!

Audley lacks something in his make up...if you could put in Holyfield's chin and determination in his body he's be a legend....but as it is...he will probable get ironed out by some no hoper.

He lacks chin and he lacks the right mentality.

He was starting to look skilful too....oh well.....

You critics make me laugh so much.

One average performance and he's worthless :-? . He's still gonna be a champ.

Well I look forward to the NOTW column this week!

On the fight, I am in full agreement with the consensus, it was poor to say the least. He proved nothing, maybe his Chin is better than Hide's.

Stamina = how was that proven, it wasn't a good pace. I hope every proffesional boxer can hit a punch bag for 12 x 3's. Wladimir and Vitali have both done 12 rounds at a better pace, but when they are put under pressure their stamina fails them (especially Wlad's).

Power = Danny Williams knock out Francis in 4, Samil Sam in 8, Maskaev in 2. I wrote before that I expected Harrison to stop him, because even though Skelton has more 1 punch KO power, Harrison has the more variety. Well, he doesn't.

The rest = was just crap, nothing to add there is not one thing where I said well at least he does that. He still reacts in a silly way EVERYTIME he is caught flush, he always does a showboat. He couldn't sustain any attacks.

My main observation, and this is something I have been thinking for a while, is that since Harrison renewed his deal with the Beeb he's done it on the terms he cannot be slagged off. I cannot remember the Sky's comments on Matt Skelton when he fought Francis, but I don't think there were any positives. It was absolutely rediculous how much praise he got. I also think Francis' comments were also interesting, view his interview after fighting a 35 year old Mike Tyson - compare that to this one.

I don't think Skelton vs Harrison will happen, because I genually think Audley doesn't want to know. However, if it does I think I might agree with Eugine Maloney's prediction. If Francis can catch Harrison, then so can Matt and at least Matt doesn't consider the need to pace himself and fought hard (terrible, but he fought at 100%) for 12 rounds vs Sprott. I'm not convinced Skelton is iron chinned, but Harrison is no Tyson in the punch department.

Well It certainly was a dull safetly first performance.
The only good you could really take from it, is that he showed in the last round that he could've probably knocked out Francis a lot earlier. If he'd just commited himself a bit more, and put his weight behind the straight left hand. But he was sooooo cautious you'd have thought it was Mike Tyson in front of him.
He might not have looked like the next Lewis, but really what other heavyweight prospects are out there?
Didn't notice him wobble either.
