sorry if i've missed a thread on this already but I was just wondering if anyone knows what the state of affairs is regarding the, now vacant, british heavyweight title? i'm assuming there will be a series of eliminators, it'll be interesting to see who is involved

Tyson Fury, Chisora and Price won't want it - the problem is that there is then a big gulf between the next bunch.

It might be an opportunity for McDermott to get a British title, other than that we might have the depressing situation of having Hughie Fury boxing Cornish for the title which for me would be a new low for British boxing.

There is very little depth to the division - why not get Joshua fighting for it?

Yes Joshua is a novice pro but so are Cornish/Hughie. It would be a good message of intent to take the belt so early and learn to be a champion.

There is depth in the division at least as far as making it a competitive division -there are some really good fights to be made and some promoters should get off their backsides and make them. the winner of Mcdermott -Lewison should be in with a shout and there Sprott Audley Hughie Fury Towers and Sexton as well as Joshua. Just hope Mcdermotts not too involved or we will be waiting years for any fights.

Be nice to see Joshua fitting for this title by the Summer.

He could have a Lonsdale belt outright by his tenth fight, then on to the European stage. No need for him to rack up 30+ fights before he reaches world level. I think he can do it the Lennox Lewis way, given the current state of the division. Be ready for a world title shot by his 20th fight.

The division suddenly flat-lines after you remove the world-class guys......and only picks-up again once you start to get through to the talented/promising novices like Hughie and Joshua.

There's really not much to shout about in that middle strata but I'd like to see Sam Sexton give it one more go and with his old nemesis Chisora aiming for bigger things, Sam should really looking to be imposing himself and get the Lonsdale.

The door is ajar for big Sam right now and I'd like to see him get the belt and make some money; he'd also be a good test/benchmark for the youngsters a bit further down the line.

I figure why not Anthony Joshua versus the likes of Richard Towers for the British title; maybe Prize Fighter ought to do a special tournament night to crown the new British Heavyweight champion

Joshua isn't eligible for the British title as he hasn't boxed in a scheduled 8 rounder. The best option would be to make the McDermott-Lewison fight that was meant to be for the English the British title fight.

Fury-Cornish wouldn't be as bad as Leon Williams-Shane McPhilbin, struggle to get any lower than that.

I think a mini tournament is in order.

Yeah I think picking the four best placed options in a mini tournament is the best option. Make sure the semis and the final take place within 2/3 months of each other so by May or so it could be settled.

Just a thought ……Just because the title is vacant does it mean stepping up lads that would ordinarily not be a this level yet or bringing back those that had missed the boat to have a champ ?


I mean if your misses was to leave you to concentrate on bigger things would you marry a moose just to fill the spot or would you wait for something more worth while ?

Little four way tournament, Sprott, McDermott, Lewison and Sexton.

Would produce a credible champ.

The title should remain vacant until there is someone worthy to fight for it. You shouldn't trust hand it out to someone for the sake of it

Sprott v McDermott the rest dont deserve a shot yet, and who said Towers? Please is useless and always has been , a lot of them are now because of the drug testing....

McDermott never fights he would be a disater as champion as the title would never get contested. This division has the potential for lots of good match ups they need to be made.
