Who next for Cotto?

After only 19 fights it was good to see Cotto's management test their lad against a quality opponent.

I wish the promoters in the UK would take note and stop wrapping their boxers in cotton wool so much.

I think after 1 or 2 more fights Cotto may be on for a decent Title shot. (imo)

Would like to see him in with Pinto though or even a British fighter. i.e. Ted Bami or Young Mutley.

I was as usual quite impressed with Cottos latest performance against N'dou. As a fighter he appeares to have a 'old head' on young shoulders which is a good thing. Cotto does indeed seem to ooze class, however I will reserve judgment for a little will longer as I'm not as convinced about Cotto as many other people appeare to be, fans, media etc.

Just one observation though, Cotto seems to be a thinking fighter which generally is a good thing . However how will he cope against a high pressure, agressive and busy fighter who doesn't give him time to think? Cotto seems to be the type of fighter that likes to fight at his own pace. So how will he cope if his opponent dowsn't allow him to do so?

Will he have the natural fighting instinct to cope? Will he panic?

Just a thought, not looking to be negative about a very promising fighter.

Time will tell I suppose.

I think Ian Darke made a good point about how a pressure fighter would cope against Cotto. The guy would need a decent chin. I think the guy would also need to have a bit more head movement than N'Dou, he was caught consistently coming in.
Cotto doesn't waste anything. To me he looked really good on the back foot, and caught N'Dou with some awesome combinations. Looking at last nights fight i'd put him in with anyone.

Cotto just seemed a bit open to the right hand aswell and although Ndou has a good ko record he doesnt strike me as a huge puncher which is why I mentioned people like Ted Bami and Young Mutley who really can dig.

Cotto is a bit beyond fighting those guys. I'm not being disrespectful, but his career is a little further on than Mutley and Bami. He'll be fighting for a world title soon, so they would be backward steps. They'd be good fights, but Cotto would win them both.
At the top of the tree there doesn't seem to me to be any really dynamite punchers, and seeing Cotto just soak up those rights from N'Dou makes me think that there isn't anyone out there who'd be able to stop him.

Some British guy who fights on Sky quite regularly.

Point conceded, Matt Skelton would stop Cotto.

Can't say I was overly impressed, before I was really thinking we have the next Roy Jones and was expecting Cotto to do a number on N'dou. Now, I am not sure he will be the dominant champ I expect.

Credit to N'dou he did very well and I'm sure he will comeback again, I'd tip both to beat Vivian Harries and I think that is who Cotto should fight next.

Fickle foolishness again StuJones.

When Roy Jones stepped up against Bernard Hopkins, even he went to points. What do you expect? Jeez.

I was impressed, as you move up in class you cannot expect to bomb everyone out it just will not happen. N'dou is a step up in class, he is strong and resilient and correct me if i am wrong but has never been stopped, he threw and landed a few right hands and some left hooks but it's Boxing, even the best get tagged. For me Cotto looked classy and always in control, his flurry at the end showed what he is about, the 115-113 was too close but obviously another idiot marking on ineffective aggression which was what N'dou was doing at times...that seems to score highly with the USA judges. Overall i predict Cotto would stop Hatton on cuts if they fought, his sharp counter punching would be too much for Rocky's cuts prone face.

he's ready for anyone. Ndou is a tough test for anyone, and like Darke said, only the top boys will beat him. I dont think anyone in the division could do any better than Cotto did.

Vivian Harris is a good opponent, then go for Sharmba Mitchell etc...

Major difference between Bernard Hopkins and Lovermore N'dou aswell. I didn't expect Cotto to KO the strong N'dou, I just thought his performance against him would have been a little more convincing than that of Mitchell's.

Roy Jones' beat Bernard Hopkins alot more convincingly than Cotto did, I realise Sky ommited 2 rounds, but Cotto certainly lost a few of the rounds that we saw.

Some fighters start off dominating lesser fighters and can continue that in world class. Roy Jones is one of them, take away Tarver and Hopkins and you can count the amount of rounds he's lost in one hand. Even Naz made the transition from over the hill contendors like Freddy Cruz, to solid world champions like Johnson and Robinson look easy.

I expected Cotto to win by about 10 points, or even a shut out. Thats how highly I thought of him, that what a 19 fight RJJ would have done. Cotto is fantastic and he's going to be champ, but for the first time I actually think Cotto vs Hatton isn't a forgone conclusion.

I think a pressure fighter plays right into Cotto's hands. He's brilliant at picking his punches and he might eat you up if you come right at him. How many fighters could take the shots Cotto landed on the Lovemore? Not many I think, Lovemore had to walk through a lot of fire to get to Cotto. He only landed a few good punches in the fight as well anyway, I found the scorecards baffling that they were that close.

A mover is the guy to trouble Cotto. He likes to fight at his own pace and pick his shots. Someone who stays on the outside will give him a test.

A mover who is strong enough and good enough to not get walked down and can command respect from their own shots.

Ppl will call this a step back but I think Tackie would be a good opponent. Cotto looked uncomfortable over the prospect of doing twelve as it got into the later rounds, if I was handling him I'd like to see him do the full twelve again before putting him in with one of the very top guys, just for a bit of added exp.

You must really dislike Tackie..Poor bloke hasn't won a round in 24..and you want him to take stick for another 12 from Cotto.
Poor ol' Tackie

Junior Witter fits that description.
