i loved the hitman his do or die approach to fights was so exciting but he was also a great boxer and for me i think his points win over virgil hill rates up there with any of his other fights .hill was an unbeaten world champ that went on to become one of the fighters with the most title fight wins ever plus it was at light heavy.

Yes a great performance . . and an underrated one. I would have to put Duran in there, Shuler also and Pipino Cuevas. But there has been so many.

I watched that fight the other day actually SteveDoc and I have never felt so much danger and menace in the ring. Hearns was just awesome ; fast, powerful and just a dangerous mother. I think this was a rare perfect performance and the 'coup de grace' was spectacular. I loved his fights with Roldan and Andries too though I would say not his best.

Duran obviously stands out. Andries has to be up there, he bounced him off the canvas like a Basketball.

the roldan and andries fights were like tough man contest's both of them took some wicked shots from hearns , there just isn't anyone as exciting as the hitman anymore.

I agree with that. I said before that styles of todays most successful are not so fan friendly as they have perfected the hit and not hit to a tee. They do not fight for entertainment. I cite Mayweather and Ward as two examples. While unquestionably great fighters they aren't fan friendly..:-) Bring back the 80's !

He was sloppy against Roldan, against Andries he was a sharp shooting machine, Dennis barely laid a glove on him.

Totally agree with this. He's my favorite fighter by miles. While I'm no writer, if you're as big a fan as I think you are you might enjoy this blog on him I did a few years ago. Pure nuthugging.

Thank You, it's the only thing I've ever saved. I wish I kept what I wrote the night Joe Frazier died and maybe my top 100 fights. Other than that, it's meh.

good call, IMO an under-rated win. I loved the heavy, thudding authority of hearns' killer jab in that fight

Tommy was the ultimate fighter...never out-boxed...
The Shuler win should have got him the Hagler rematch.

They are both only a Google search away. I think I sent you the Frazier one once, maybe it was in a Frazier thread. On the phone now, but can find them once I'm back on the laptop.

I thought you wrote some good, balanced pieces. Like Il Duces posts.

I mainly just predicted fights, they were balanced. A favorite fighters list is just what it says.

His win over Pipino Cueves was chilling. And I agree with someone who said that his 1991 decision over Virgil was underrated. Huge performance and legacy win for the hitman.

An extraordinary fighter, no doubt. I like to see the great Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns fight. He was definitely the most exciting fighter of the 80s, win, lose or draw.
His best performances:
WKO2 over Roberto Duran: Still when I see that fight until this day, makes me laugh. How Duran fell down like a tree. What a punch.
WKO2 over Pipino Cuevas: Another fight that I laugh everytime I see the KO. It was devastating.
LTKO3 by Marvin Hagler: He fought his heart out, but it was Marvelous greatest hour. Even in defeat, the Hitman looked great.
W15 over Wilfred Benitez: He outboxed the master.
LTKO14 by Sugar Ray Leonard: This fight is the fight that kept the Hitman outside the top 50 all time p4p. If he would have won that fight alone, he would have been in anybody's top 20 all time p4p.
To me, he was a better fighter at 154lbs than at welterweight. He looked invincible at 154lbs.
He had it all. Only his chin prevented him from winning the two biggest fights of his career.
