How Do You Rate Clay's Win Over Liston?

Liston as seemingly unbeatable monster and a huge betting favourite. Clay took him apart, even with the suspect substance in his eyes.

I rate it as one of the best performances by a heavyweight ever. What about you?

You posed a question. And I gave an 'Honest' answer.[/quote]

You made yourself look like a complete bell end, is what you did.

Perfectly put. Ali was awesome for barely 22 years of age. He rates it as his finest performance....i think I agree.

Despite the fact that I consider Liston to be very overrated, it was still an impressive win. Even when Clay was a sitting duck unable to see, he managed to prove he was a sitting duck who could survive 3 rounds of punishment in good shape.

Complete lack of action, between a 'lumbering' old man with major Tax Problems from the IRS,
and a fleet-footed light-punching kid who had 'Financial Backers up the Coolie'.
lol.

'Boxing News'

"Muhammad Ali KO In 1 Over Il Duce"
-The famous boxing reporter Il Duce was knocked out in Poetic War by 'The Greatest'-

After he said that one of the most important and impressive fights in the heavyweight division between Ali and Liston was "dull and uneventful", Muhammad threw down the gauntlet.

Il Duce picked it up but he didn't prepare for the worst beating in his short career.

Ali was offensive and self-confident from the very beginning.

"Clay threw his left, then threw his right
Il Duce saw stars and think it was night
That's my great poem which is the latest
Now better start think of me as 'The Greatest'"

Unfortunately, he didn't respond with anything. The judge was counting to 10 and the fight was over.
Regret that you didn't see Il Duce's surprised face.

Liston walked in very sure of himself, and walked out losing nearly all his confidence. Never the same after that.

Cassius Clay shook up nothing, the Miami Beach Auditorium was nearly half-filled.

Nobody cared.......
But yet he went on to become one of the most loved sportsmen in history and one of the most recognisable faces on the planet. Those sir, are FACTS. Not the deluded ramblings you post on here.

Not to nit-pick, but it's impossible to be the most loved and despised at the same time. That's a mathematical impossibility.

No it is not............'the most despised' and 'most beloved' can happen at the same time.
 Please explain.

Question 1

Lets ask the World who is their most beloved athlete.

Let's say 25% respond with Cassius Clay.

The next highest rated athlete gets 15%.

Result. Cassius Clay is the most beloved athlete.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Question 2

Let's ask the World what athlete do they 'hate' and 'despise' the most.

Let's say 25% respond with Cassius Clay.

The next highest rated athlete gets 15%.

Result, Cassius Clay is most 'hated' and 'despised' athlete in the World.

I think you're getting me confused with the actual Keith Moon. But then, most of the stuff you post is completely deluded, so that's understandable.

I think the term is "polarizing figure". And I would agree that he was just such a person.

Not that I get a lot of comfort from agreeing with someone who is right about as often as stopped clock.

Clay was booed, but Ali become a worldwide phenomenan - still hated by some, but loved by many.

Liston fought stupidly. I'm not saying Sonny would have won if he had fought smartly :shame: , but it would have been a better fight. :OhYes:

How do I rate the win? It was a very good win for the underdog Cassius who really did "shock the world." But when rating the fight, one has to take into account how stupidly Liston fought . . . :box:

He fought stupid because he had no clue how to deal with Ali's footspeed. There was nothing he could have done against Ali without a gun or rocket launcher.

A great performance by a relative novice against an experienced and dangerous opponent.

I disagree. Sonny knew how to cut off the ring, but didn't do it very well in this fight. He also used his left jab stupidly. Not that Sonny would have necessarily won or that it wasn't a great performance by young Cassius . . .

Sonny fought like he left his brains in the dressing room.

Prior to this fight he hadn't needed anything more than what he brought. Cutting off the ring is one thing. Doing it against a young Ali is an entirely different issue.

The thing is, he didn't even try. Again, I am not saying he would have won. I'm saying he fought stupidly and could have done better.
