I like Hatton but I don’t know how good he really is. I want to see him fight Mitchell, Zoo, Urkal, Harris and Witter. That’s why the fans are calling for a big name

Spadafora failed to stop Dennis Pedersen in a 12-rounder - blown out by Ricky in his last fight (though Spadafora fought a fit Pedersen).
At 28, he fits the criteria for a Hatton challenger. None of Hatton's challengers have been younger than 28.

I actually have no problems with Hatton facing Spadafora.
I know a lot of people are not happy about the idea of this fight, and sure, Spadafora is considerably smaller than Hatton and won't have the power to trouble him, but at the end of the day, his competition is far superior to Hatton's, he is still unbeaten and is a former long reigning IBF champion who made eight defences of the title.
I just personally think that out of the five or six opponents that we want to see Hatton in with, Spadafora is one of those, and I think after this fight, we will have a far better idea of just what Hatton is capable of.
I think Hatton would grind Spadafora down for late TKO or points win in his first real test other than Ben Tackie.
The difference between Tackie and Spadafora though, is, we all knew that Tackie's only chance was a puncher's one, whereas this is a very interesting matchup where Hatton is actually in a high risk fight where he could get exposed.
It seems like it's just me but I seriously think that the over protecting of Ricky Hatton is finally starting to come to an end. Warren sucks but I think he knows that unless something special happens soon, Hatton will have no choice but to leave him.

What happened to Harris in September? Spadafora got dropped and was lucky against light punching lightweight pressure fighter Leonard Dorin.

Beginning to sound like Spadafora will be Ricky's top 10(ish) opponent for 2004, much in the way Ben Tackie was for 2003. Tackie was the talk for most of last year, it finally came about after 2/3 con-jobs, looks like the same is going to happen this year.

sorry to disagree alex mate coz you do talk a lot of sense but i dont see it as a start but as an excuse.
spad is an excuse frank can run past us all without putting ricky in with someone who might have a chance of beating him.
hatton is a good fighter so its quite an exclusive club consisting of zoo, mitchell, cotto and maybe gatti (ricky would do him but it would be competative imo)
i`d understand if ricky looked shit or something.

Fair point Headhunter, obviously I have to stick by what I said but as much as I believe a Spadafora fight is a good step in the right direction, it is at the end of the day, another silly WBU defence, and I expect better now.
I am not being biased, but I think he could have potential to be the best in the world.
Kostya Tszyu - Old and rusty, chinny and probably past sell by date. Although a good technical boxer, may decide to fight fire with fire which may backfire on him.
Sharmba Mitchell - Easily the toughest fight around for Hatton, but is getting older, reflexes are not the same as they were, probably doesn't have the power to hurt Hatton, and i'm really not too sure how he would handle the relentless body shots.
Arturo Gatti - Would be a corker of a fight, but I feel Gatti is slightly overrated and would lose a decision in a thriller to the fresher Hatton.
Vivian Harris - Probably the easiest fight for Hatton out of the elite. Good all round fighter who can do a little of everything, but in my opinion, does nothing particually outstandingly and would lose to Hatton either by a late stoppage or decision. Not much for Hatton to gain in that fight, but at least he would pick up the more presticious WBA title.

I never said Harris wasn't one of the best, I am just stating that except for picking up a legit title, beating Harris isn't going to gain Hatton a massive deal.
As for gaining respect, I don't know about that, he would gain a little, but at the end of the day, it's only Vivian Harris, he is nothing spectacular and most sceptical fans will still not be totally convinced. I don't know why some people think Harris is superman. He is an unremarkable titlist who was fortunate to get the decision against Oktay Urkal.

Unless I'm missing a trick, which wouldn't be the first time, how can this fight happen without Hatton going to the US? Are we expecting Spadafora's legal issues to be over some September (as I understand he's marrying the girl he allegedly tried to kill)?

He's in a ridiculous situation where people have him either top two or three or barely in the top 10, and this is symptomatic of the fact that he hasn't had a real tough fight for a while.
