why are there no fights outside caesers palace anymore????

Because it only held about 4,000 people.

I think he means the large temporary arena they would erect outdoors for the superfights. That arena, over the old tennis courts, usually held between 15,000-20,000 fans.
The smaller arena was Caeser's Pavillion, site of the legendary Foreman-Lyle shootout.
The real question should be "why isn't Caesar's involved in bigtime boxing any longer?"
Back in the 70's and part of the 80's, when you thought of big fights, you thought of Caesar's first.

yeah,thats the one,didn`t hearns/duran fight there as well as holmes/cooney,every big fight used to be at caesers

I loved watching fights there, but I don't recall crowds being that large. The main answer is that the other venues put up the licensing fees.

Is the Caeser's Pavilion still there? I recall so many great TV fights from that venue.

Or that about 26,000 packed Caesars for Holmes vs. Ali?

In addition, about 23,000 were there for the first Leonard-Hearns battle.

Huge outdoor crowds were the norm for the Las Vegas superfights at Caesar's Palace.

wasn't the triple hitters bill with mcguigan ,hearns and duran outdoors caeser's palace .when mcguigan suffered from the heat.

McGuigan did well until the outdoor Las Vegas heat drained him and he went down several times late in the bout.

that was the first time my idol of the time got beat , i was 15 and gutted he lost like that . looking back how stupid to put an irish man on a outside show in that heat ,my dad would burn looking at a light bulb :)

It was definitely there, I also think it was the first PPV I ever ordered. Like $19.99

Duran/Sims was a great fight.

Never saw a fight live at caesar's but it was a fun place to visit. The basement of that place and some of its night clubs are like something out of a fairy tale.

Stevie Cruz was a huge underdog as I remember it, and the fight with McGuigan wasn't expected to be very competitive. And considering that Duran and Hearns were bigger names in the U.S. then the Irishman, it was deemed that McGuigan vs. Cruz would lead off the PPV telecast.

I imagine it was about 6 p.m. when that match went off, and of course the sun was still blazing in the desert on that early June evening.
McGuigan fought like he always did--nonstop punches and pressure--but eventually wilted in the 100 degree heat when he couldn't put the tough Cruz away.
Someone should have told Barry to pace himself a little better.
I still miss those pre-fight renditions of Danny Boy by his father.

Shitty management not taking climate into consideration. Should have arrived in Vegas at a date that would have allowed him to adapt. That, or Crus was just better period.
