After twice pulling out of a mandated defence against Bobby Vanzie, Graham Earl has been stripped of the British Lightweight title, according to Secondsout.com.
Vanzie will now be matched with the next leading contender, which is....??

No. Tell me it's not you.

No, but obviously I am very curious as to who gets the opportunity.

What a shame, Dean. I suppose they'll chuck in Steve Murray with Vanzie again.

I would be very surprised to see Murray fight again this year, after the war he had last time out.

True. Mark Winters' camp were moaning and groaning about not getting a shot at Earl in February due to Vanzie's mandatory nomination. Could be him.

If it is going to be Winters, I don't see how he has earned the chance to fight for it. He hasn't fought yet this year, and only fought twice last year, one win and a controversial draw with Martin Watson.

I personally would like to see Steve Conway get a crack.
allegedly is not going to like Earl being stripped one iota. He's been mucking Vanzie around through Earl and it's all blown up in their faces. Serves Warren right, but I feel sorry for Graham. I was chatting to him at ringside at York Hall a few weeks before his first scheduled defence against Vanzie in February and he looked in great nick. He was telling me he boxed the wrong fight in their first fight, standing off of Vanzie, and was going to pressure him second time around. He wasn't given the chance and has endured a horrible reign, just one non-title struggle against Jon Honney since winning the title last July.

But would Conway make the weight okay now ? For his last 2 fights he weighed 10 st 10; he was probably quite a bit heavier in the actual fights too.

Was the Lee Meager-Charles Shepherd 10 rounder last movember or december an official eliminator for the lightweight title, or was it for an English title.I cannot remember.

I hope you're not going to turn around at the end of this and give us a date for you and Vanzie.

No, it was just a 10-rounder, Dean.

I think it will either be Conway or maybe Danny Hunt. I'm sure Conway can make the weight, remember he was fought at Super Feather against Alex Arthur fairly recently.
I'm sure he can make the Lightweight limit comfortably.
Certainly its an opportunity for Dean, I think Vanzie is past his sell by date, his stamina looks a big problem (judging by the Earl performance). I would like Dean's chances maybe on points.
Where is David Burke these days? Perhaps it will be him gets the shot.
As has been said before all of the top ten (in my rankings) are pretty close, with the exception of Cook who has now pulled clear. I don't think Meager has done enough to warrant such a shot, but the remaining fighters all do.

David Burke hasn't fought for almost a year

Yeah, I know - anybody know why Burke isn't fighting. Surely he can't have retired after one set back.

Burke's too busy living it up in the nightclubs of Liverpool. He'll be back when his money runs out.

It's Murray - but open to purse bids, and won't happen until September.
I feel for Vanzie.
Stitched up again.

Yes i also heard Burke is busy living the high life at the moment. I wasn't looking forward to Earl-Vanzie II anyway so can't say i'm too bothered it isn't happening, i thought Vanzie won the first fight anyway and Earl has never done anything in particular to warrant being British champion, that struggle with Jon Honney just confirms it. Harsh i know but i'm not saying Earl is not a good fighter but just that he needs to prove himself.

I wish Vanzie was able to turn his back on this filthy rotten sport. He must be so chewed up inside.

I've seen him on occasion in my local, with his amateur bro stephen.
