Frankie deserves better than this

I'll reserve judgement until I've seen some footage of Shikukutu. I sometimes think that UK promoters buy up the rights to footage of these imports and hide it under their beds. Other than a couple of interviews there's nothing.

Nearly 6 years since Beijing and none of the boxers near a world title shot apart from Degale and thats end of the year at best

I hope Frankie's loyalty pays off for him.

Gavin should be where Brook is in some kind of mandatory fight. I doubt we will see Gavin in a big domestic showdown with Khan or Brook

Frankie isn't a ticket seller so it's all about working towards a mandatory, losing the purse bids, and crossing the fingers.

I can accept this fight so long as Gavin is out again sharpish against decent opposition. Should be an opportunity for Gavin to look very good though going by his opponents record.................

Frankie isn't a bad seller at all. He has been promised a big fight at home in the summer, I think he will sell very well there. If it doesn't come off, I think his patience will snap.

Brook's resume is no favourable to Gavin's at this moment in time, he has a mandatory fight now, but he had one last year and that never happened and it's going to be delayed even further as Porter and Alexander are set to re-match.

Well if his opponent does turn out to be poor, quite easy to play on his surname.

It's an interesting point. It's taken Brook 10 years as a pro to get where he is just now, Gavin isn't a million miles behind in half the time. I wonder who'll compete for a world title first?

If Gavin gets a world title shot before brook that would be a massive statement from FW to Eddie

Whilst I can't comment on this particular opponent, it's amazing what you can find when you look in foreign languages.

I doubt Sacky's up to much and it will probably be over quickly, but he's WBO #14, which is why Frankie's fighting him and it gets the Commonwealth defence out the way. The plan, as Frankie has stated, is to get this lad out the way, then a final eliminator in Birmingham in June/July against Bethuel Ushona, who was comfortably beaten by Denton Vassell a few years ago, but he's ranked #2, behind Pacquaio so he will be #1 after Bradley-Pacquiao II. After that it's up to Fwank to work his WBO magic and force the mandatory quickly. If the mandatory's enforced, Bradley or Pacquiao would likely vacate, leaving Frankie to fight for a vacant title at home and the last mandatory for the WBO belt was Cotto-Jennings in February 2009, so it's long overdue.

That's a big "if" though. As you point out, there hasn't been one for years.

Beating these guys isn't exactly ideal preparation for world class.

I think Frankie is being incredibly patient, which suggests he is happy with the plan in place.

He needs a performance though.

Totally agree. I'm still waiting for the 2008 Olympians to flourish. All 3 of their careers have been stop-start.

Funny thing is the '08 Olympians across the board have been disappointing, not just the UK ones. I think Jhonathan Romero is the only one to have won a world title (and we saw how long his reign lasted) and Kubrat Pulev has probably been the most impressive. REALLY disappointment.

Of course the opponent isn't great, or ideal preparation for world class fighters, but he can only fight who ever is in front of him and his mandatory's, which he has done, he's welcomed and called for any challengers.

John Murray, Kevin Mitchell, Kell Brook, Ricky Hatton to name but a few had a lot more fights than what Frankie's had before they even fought anyone half decent never mind fighting for a world title.

Murray, Brook, Mitchell all been pro's for 10yrs and over, more than twice has long has Frankie and there still no where near a world title fight, eliminators, final eliminators, this that the other.

There's no rush, IMO Frankie needs to travel abroad and get some genuine world class sparring to prepare himself for what is inevitable, world title fights & becoming world champion. There's no one in this country IMO that can test him and take him out his comfort zone, has non of opponents yet or near future will be adequate enough to prepare him for the elite.

If I was his coach I'd have him Sparring the likes of Marquez, Bradley, Garcia, Provodnikov etc, to prepare him, He fought the best in the world has a Am, and needs to prepare to do the same now has a pro. He has got the tools and boxing brain/ability to mix it and beat fighters at the highest level IMO, it's just about preparing him, pushing him out his comfort zone and sharpening the god given ability and tools he already has, because I know he has the ability to be a superstar and one of our greatest fighters ever.

Whilst that's true lets not forget only 1 of those 4 men actually won a world title. Lets use him to the the rest of what you said off.

Hatton fought Lauri in fight #21, by that point he had been a profession for 3 years...Frankie has been a pro for damn close to 5.

It doesn't just matter how many fights you have but also how regularly you're having them and the expectation and hype you have around you. Gavin has hype, expectation amateur pedigree etc but 5 years on he's STILL fighting at this sort of level.

It puzzles me that people actually defend him still.
