How would Miguel Cotto would have done against

Kostya Tzuyu
Arturo Gatti
and Ricky Hatton at Light-Welter.

I think he beats all three, he was pretty monstrous at the weight.

I see him weathering some shaky moments from Tszyu to stop him himself, grinding down Hatton either to a late stoppage or UD, and well, beating Gatti brutally.

Beats Hatton and Gatti.

Not Tszyu.

I like him against all 3. As much as I Love Gatti, I think Cotto would've really beaten the crap out of him. I think fight's with Hatton and Tszyu would be very intriguing, closely contested bouts, but I think Cotto would ultimately come out on top either winning close decisions against both or late stoppages. I think he'd win a decision against Kostya, and stop Hatton.

Tszyu beat young Cotto as well

Hatton beat young Cotto by decision

Cotto beat Gatti.

He's clearly above Gatti.

He loses to KT and is at about the same level as Hatton. Probably a shade above Hatton but the same postcode.

I think Tszyu is one of those fighters who has come to be judged by one result. He was a level above Hatton, and a genuine P4P contender in his era. He was sliding when he fought Hatton, and has the edge over all 3,prime for prime.

Miguel cotto's not a boxer of the past, so it's strange to have a thread titled on him here.

Demolishes Gatti, edges Hatton in a competitive fight (but I can it that going either way) and gets stopped by Tyszu.

Cotto would have a great fight with Tzuyu(One for the ages,Very Epic). I think he'd come out on top, just barely. Cotto by SD12.

Cotto would Bust up a Game but Outclassed and Overmatched Gatti. 140 and especially 147 were very Bad weightclasses for Gatti to be in. Cotto by 7th Round Tko at 140,Cotto by 5th Rd Tko at 147.

Cotto-Hatton at 140 would be very good for 3 or 4 rounds but i think Cotto would settle into the right groove by the 4th or 5th round and methodically dissect Hatton into a Bloody Pulp of humanity.
Cotto by 10th Rd Tko.

There IS a definite Past version of Cotto(140-147 version),as oppossed to the new version of Cotto(154 version). We could've easily done the same thing with Duran or Pazienza for example,if we had internet forums like this back in the 80's and 90's. 8)

Don't think Cotto's chin is good enough to survive Tyszu. He beats Gatti and edges out Hatton though.

Vs. Hatton
I don’t know how you guys see this but Hatton to me is clearly below Cotto. Hatton went to 147 and immediately got a gift decision vs Collazo. I don’t see Cotto ever coming close losing to Collazo.

If we evaluate common opponents:

Floyd: Cotto handled Floyd way better than Hatton did. They both lost but Cotto performance was clearly a level above Hatton.

Pac: Same as above.

I don’t see Hatton ever beating Margarito, Mosley, or Quintana.
At 140 or 147, I have Cotto stopping Hatton.

Vs. Kostya
I favor Cotto to outbox Kostya. Granted Kostya had tremendous power but Cotto was much better technically. Torres was not as good as Kostya but I think there is no denying that he was a huge puncher. He hurt Cotto numerous times but Cotto cameback and won. That to me gives the advantage to Cotto. I don’t see Kostya in Pac’s level.

Vs. Gatti
Cotto something similar to what he did to “the Gomez”

That's true and I do agree but on the flipside, Cotto had major trouble with Paulie while Hatton seemed to handle him with ease after having his confidence taken by Floyd.

hmmm, not sure about major troubles. IMO, Cotto's drained state at 140 at the time simply meants he couldn't work the full 3x60x12 which is why Malignaggi was able to pick up points/rounds

the flipside, given that Paulie's face looked like it had been acting as a golfing tee for a drunken malcoordinated psycopath, is if Cotto had major trouble with Pauile, fvck knows what Paulie had with Cotto. may need to find a new category, here.....

Cotto busted Paulie up being the much stronger fighter, but there were moments in that fight where Paulie was outboxing him opposed to the Hatton fight where Hatton won just about every minute. Paulie could've won 4 rounds in the Cotto fight.

hatton's footspeed/closing speed the big factor there, plus Cotto's weightdrianed stamina
